It won't be long before some aspiring editor has something ready to play. I'm all geared up to host and I'd wager good bank that someone has GatB re-done already. But how do you play T3FMs? Is some external program (FleshLoader?) required?
Also, for the sake of a poor FM host, could anyone let me in on just how big these things are going to be? I'm worried that levels are self-contained and thus must include a full set of textures and meshes even though a pile of those come with the base game.

We didn't get very far in discussing the possible need for a FleshLoader or similar... Alex did say that we'd need something like that if people were going to use custom gamesys set-ups, but I think we pretty much glossed over that end of things, thinking it would be best to wait and see what ended up being necessary and whether or not someone around here would get to work on it if it was.
Bear in mind that there is a LOT we still don't know about the logistics of mission distribution and sharing. That kind of thing is going to have to be figured out on the fly.

Actually creating an entire copy of the Thief 3 install ((
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91952) described here) just to run missions seems a tad much to me. But I'm not complaining, we got the editor & that is enough for now.
So personally, I'm hoping for some kind program like DarkLoader (FleshLoader for the name sounds fine to me). One where I can pretty much toss any or all zipped fan missions into a single mission folder in the original installation directory & run through the loader.
[edit] Or better yet, I wonder if it would be possible to add a mission selection menu in the game (yes, I'm probably dreaming here). Where you can switch between the original campaign & the fan creations.

I think we'll just have to give everyone time to get their heads around this whole thing.
Questions will be answered, but first I think we all need to investigate and experiment just to determine what questions need to be asked and why. :cheeky:
In the mean time, um... FleshLoader... :sly: :erm:
(Okay, I'm probably just being adolescent. :thumb: )

Just make sure that if someone writes such a program, that 7-Zip compression is at least supported (or preferably required -- after all, installing the 7-Zip software will be a miniscule effort for fan mission authors compared to making a mission).
edit: I couldn't make that be my first reply on the general subject without adding: Holy Cow. We have an editor. w00t!!! Thank you everyone!!

just wondering, where did the name FleshLoader come from?
countless moms and girlfriends may have a problem with that, until a very good explanation is given ;)

Flesh is the internal name for the engine. If you look at the 3d preview viewport in the editor it is titled Flesh Renderer

Flesh RendererWhere the heck did they get
that name from? Should've called it Looking Glass' Legacy... Err, no, too long. Guess I just always thought, like others, that 'Dark' was a suitable name, and now 'Flesh'? Now 'Dark Flesh' I could live with :D

Well whatever it's called once we learn more about distribution etc, I would be happy to program the loader. I believe all thats technically required to play a map is to just call T3.exe "mapfile" however this wouldnt work if the mod author wanted custom menu's and such, so we'll see once we get some maps made we can test with.

Not for running, but editing.
Simply running a map should not require any copying, right?
