I'm a DX newbie, and I just finished the first segment, and am on my way through Battery Park. I love it so far!
Anyway, I hacked everything I could find and 2 of the passwords from ajacobson's e-mail, (umm...I'm at work right now...)redshoes and antique, don't seem to work. Is this a bug, or doesn't it matter?
I wish I had known I was going to get a stealth pistol before I slapped all those mods on my regular one...Of course, I didn't want to give my jazzed up pistol to Gunther, but he's a big ole jerk anyhoo!

does anybody ever lug around that flamethrower, it takes up about half my inventory! I'm not keeping that thing!

Just catching most any enemy in a flame thrower blast for an instant sets them on fire, making them unable to attack and totally eliminating them as a threat. So yeah, it can be useful. I don't use it much myself though.

I ditched my regular pistol shortly after receiving the stealth pistol - even though I had dumped a few modifications into it. Then I heavily modified my stealth pistol.
Late in the game however, despite having to waste all the mods I had made to it, I switched back. The stealth pistol just does so much less damage than the regular pistol.

Thanks for the feedback! I have too many little things in my inventory to afford such a big thing. I was certainly glad to see you keep things from one mission to the next, unlike Thiefs, or the Training exercise.
Here's a question, are all low-tech weapons about the same except for damage? The stats seem to indicate so...It would seem, if you have the baton, there's no point in keeping the army knife and the crowbar. Right?

The baton is non-leathal damage - so you can knock people out. If you wanna kill people use the crowbar. BTW note the way the weapon swings when you use it - thats why the crowbar is nasty - cos its easy to get head hits.
Having said that be nice to those NSF people - after all they are just fighing against the establishment - so if you have to take one out just sneak up behind and get them with the prod or baton (if you have a good low tech skill)

Definitely keep the standard 10mm pistol. Its extra damage makes it the preferred weapon for me.
As for low-tech weapons, the only ones I use are the baton and the riot prod. There is another really neat melee weapon you get later in the game, but this time through I'm carrying a GEP gun and don't have the room.
The dart gun never seemed like it was worth the trouble. The tranq darts give the target just enough time to shoot you before they drop, and the others just didn't seem to be as lethal as their damage rating would imply.
I really like the flamethrower, but it is too big to use all the time. If I have accumulated sufficient ammo, I like to drop some other weapons and use it for a while just to save ammo (besides, it's fun in a sadistic kind of way - I didn't say that

If you replay the game, you can drop your modified pistol, pick an unmodified one up from a body, and give that to Gunther. Of course, you need to do that before you talk to him, so it's kind of a cheesy tactic...

As for the passwords: I think (but I won't swear to this) that redshoes works only on Janice Reed's computer, and antique works only on Sam Carter's computer (and you can't get to Carter's computer, so ...).

The dart gun works VERY nice if you can quickly duck out of sight; the victim runs around grunting and eventually collapses. Not quite as fun as the prod, but it works well.
Also, it's especially useful against MiBs. Hit them with a couple tranquilizer darts and they collapse but don't explode.

Not to mention that it's the only ranged weapon that works underwater ..... a quite important ability at times.
