Having a computer 20 or 30 times more powerful than 10 years ago is great, but the only thing a faster computer does is make things faster, it doesn't make things better.
As for realistically simulating a little district (without using scripts), unfortunately the technology and the technique is still not there yet. We're not even close. Let's wait for one convincing AI first, then will talk about simulating a little district. Unfortunately, there's a good chance I'll be dead by that time (based on statistics, I have about 35 years left to live).
[Disappointing. My language and communication skills lacking sg.] You have missed my point. I mean simulating WITH scripts. I dispute only the details. Scripting the functionning of systems like electric networks etc. is ok. (Not only two phased way of course. For example if player cut a cable, lights should go out only that part of building that depended on cutted circuit.) Scripting events of a story that i debate. A character is should be scripted (eg. motivations). Not the social network.
I mean sg. like this. It is technically possible now.
And games nowadays uses little districts linked with portals.
Full realism is not working in computer games, but eg. in films. Computer game worlds will be stilized at all times. (However if somebody propagandize its game as a realistic one, finding things like undevastable wooden doors are really disturbing.)

This is one of the first pieces of concept art released for DXIW.

As you can see, first concept images aren't really worth much.
+1. I've more than learned to never hold my breath for a game, especially with these drop-dead stupid publishers (and some game designers) at the helm. It's amazing how easily (and drastically) they can mutilate a good franchise sometimes.
