So you got it?
I'm tinkering with it right now - liking the new form of bookmarking and the "awesome" bar is rather nice too...

God, the "awesome bar" was the first thing to piss me off to no end. Luckily, it didn't take me too long to find an add-on that replicates the look and feel of the bar in Firefox 2 and the browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped setting. Admittedly, part of the problem with the awesome bar was the fact that I have far too many bookmarks that have long outlived their purpose and need to be deleted.

I recently downloaded Firefox 3 to get a new add-on which is REALLY useful. What it does is allow one to open up a tab in Firefox, but uses internet explorer coding. This lets me watch those embedded WMVs that don't like to play in Firefox. You can also flip a tab between firefox to IE and back again to see how pages look or to fix a problem.
The new features are okay, i guess, the only thing i didn't like was when the put the Forward and Back dropdown lists under one arrow. But even that's not that bad.

All in all, I like it. It doesn't choke when I open 32 tabs at once (as I am wont to do) and it feels like it runs a little faster for me.
Still, the awesome bar was horribly bloated in the way it displayed information, so the OldBar extension was a welcome find.
And Lancer, IETab is nice, but it's far from new. I've been using it for ages :)

I dislike the 'awesome' bar with a passion.
I've got the extension that removes it, but I am absolutely staggered that the developers removed the about:config preference that turned it on or off in an early beta.
I can't really get the kind of mindset of a company that develops something that, even in the betas, clearly polarised people and had an option to turn it off (thus pleasng eveyone!) and then removes said option, thus pissing people off and forcing them to rely on a third party extension!
I'm just happy I only use Firefox for testing at work. The management of Firefox is decidedly iffy these days.
The_Raven on 19/6/2008 at 22:08
David, would that be the oldBar extension, or is there another one out there?
Yeah, I adored Firefox 2 all around. For Firefox 3, I do like the fact that they've made the back button larger than the forward one and adding the option of saving your session if you close Firefox with opened tabs. Some of the Firefox 3 design points, however, have me scratching my head. Isn't this the same kind of "my way or the highway" design that Apple takes flack for?
EDIT: What do you use at home, David? Opera?

Been using Opera 9.5 for a few days, I don't really like the UI change but I guess I'll get used to it.
On the other hand they changed a bunch of shortcuts again, and that pisses me off.

Changes only seem to be minor. I'm sure there are skins that fit your preference for Opera 9.5, raph. Widgets are lacking for Opera, its whats missing most and a internal spellchecker. Extensions make firefox a blast.
Opera is my default browser atm. :)

pain is temporary but glory is forever...
in this light, how do you fare with Word 2007?
Kolya on 20/6/2008 at 06:15
I don't. I used to use Open Office and still do if I need a serious word processor. But most of the time I write with google's browser based text & tables app now.
