I watched this earlier and thought it an odd choice to bring Jonathan Ferguson in on as the weapons don't really have real-world counterparts that they're obviously based off. Sure he could give his opinion as to their functionality, but there didn't seem to be much he could say about each other than they looked kinda sci-fi. That said, his point about flechette rounds in a shotgun had struck me as odd as well when I first encountered it. I assumed it as a nod to the gun of the same name that the shotgun appeared to be relacing, but it's still an odd choice.

It's still fun to hear about exactly some of the designs don't make any sense from a real-world perspective. But imo it's pretty much all justified because it improves gameplay or is just plain cool. I feel like the only real mistake in the gun design is the iron sights on the Magnum, which would be easy to fix and wouldn't detract from the coolness factor in any way. Hmm... actually, maybe they kept it like it is because it'd make the absence of real "aim down sights" more apparent and annoy some people.
