I just finished Bloodmoon the other day, and I have a question about the hunting game you participate in at the very end.
It reminded me of the book, "The Posting of the Hunt." The book and the experience were extremely similiar, yet the book failed to mention Hircine's (sp?) name.
And here's a hint... If you've finished the game, it's probably too late. But pick 'Guile'! You get something better... heh. I wish I'd have picked that. Too late now... of course.. if I got rid of the amulet I got, and fought the aspect... you could hardly call that cheating, right?

Bah, I'm just getting used to it... It's just... so strange... Snow. Lots of snow. So... much... snow...
It reminded me of the book, "The Posting of the Hunt."
IIRC, that's about the Spear of Bitter Mercy.

I know that. I have read the book you know. Have you even finished Bloodmoon yet? You'll see what I mean afterwards... But I'll make some connections below:
Obviously, the entire concept of 'The Hunt.' Within the book, they talk about the hunt, and the Huntsman (in Bloodmoon, Hircine.) It also says 'Let no man say before a witness that the Hunt has not been called, nor the Rites declared, or the Ancient Offices observed.' The Rites could be the... various events you participated in which escape my mind at this moment.
It goes on to say 'The Ritual pits the all-powerful Huntsmen (Hircine) and their Greater and Lesser Dogs (Werewolves?) against the pitiful and doomed Innocent Quarry, called by tradition the Hare... (You, the Captain, the leader of the Skaal and Karstaag.)'
The book says there are 6 keys used to allow the prey to escape. You did only use three but... Anyway, I found it all a bit similiar, but it might just be coincidence.
