I have seen Brokeback Mountain and I thought it was well made. I didn't care that it was about gay cowboys, I heard the film was good from word-of-mouth and that's why I went to see it. That plus I figured the scenery would be beautiful and look like where I used to live and I was correct.
I was surprised that Crash won, only because it seemed to fly under the radar in the press. I haven't seen it myself so I can't comment on whether the win was worthy. There are several times I have actually seen the oscar go to who I thought should win it but mostly I'm left going, "Huh?".
I was very happy that Wallace and Gromit won. The movie deserved an award. :D

I forget which year it was, but the one that really pissed me off was Titanic stealing all of LA Conifdential's awards. Now that was some serious backslapping bullshit.

You thought LotR was about gay midgets, didn't you.

I'm just here to repeat the 'It's not a gay cowboy movie! It's a gay shepherd movie!' joke

I nominate Tom Hanks for "Most Perfunctory Presentation of an Award in a Major Category".
Obviously he wasn't being paid by the word.
Did anyone else notice that as Hanks walked out on stage he seemed to be saying something in anger to Stewart? Hanks definitely looked pissed off just before & during his presentation.

I'm disappointed that Rese Witherspoon won, just because her film was so unbelievable dull. She was good in it though, so maybe I'm being unfair.
Also, was Cache up for best foreign film? Maybe it's actually more than a year old now?
But it was the best film I saw last year by a fucking mile. And it was a didactic racism film that actually deserved acclaim. Unlike Crash, innit.

I was rooting for Brokeback Mountain. Ah well.

I was just as disappointed that Crash won best picture. I'd never even heard of the damn movie, and if I had, I probably dismissed it as shit. Jon Stewart rocked the house's socks off. He kicks some serious ass.
On a funny side note about Brokeback Mountain, my parents went into furious ravings whenever it was said to be nominated for anything.

I don't think Cache was nominated - which I understand. While I thought that the nominated films I'd seen were very good movies, they weren't really ambivalent, and ambivalence is something the Academy doesn't do. Cache is completely, utterly ambivalent.
