Can anybody give me a hint on how to find a lost quest item, either with the console or some other semi-legitimate means? I picked up a book in a quest and then sold or dropped it somewhere before I received the quest that uses it, so I wasn't aware of its significance, and now can't find it anywhere:( Many thanks!

I had this same problem with a thieves guild quest about a Redoran Cookbook, simply use the TES Construction Set to find your book. Open the set, File>Datafiles and select Morrowind.esm and Tribunal.esm(if you have it). In a window with many tabs at the top, select Book, go down the list and find the book you want, write down its ID(the ID mind you, not the Name). Go into Morrowind, and when you are loaded up, go to the console and type player->additem "book_id_here" 1 replace "book_id_here" with the ID mentioned above. Hope this helps :)
