There is now functionality which lets you selectively delete recently played tracks to correct that sort of thing.

One thing I'm curious about is why some Japanese Film and Video Game composers are coming up with their artist name as a number of ? characters. An accident with UTF-8 character sets?

Just joined as Speesh_ttlg (I'm seriously wondering who the hell else would want the username Speesh). I've actually been meaning to make an account there for a while and never got around to it until now.
Edit: And thanks doctorfrog, that iScrobbler plugin was the only way I could get it to work.
