watching a DVD that they've somehow mounted to the dashboard of their fucking humvees.
It sounds like bullshit but this specific example, I have seen multiple times. Fuckin' Walmart shoppers, I swear.

Just like speed limits right
Wrong, but I'm not getting so easily drawn into that debate again

To make a long story short, last year I got drawn into a web of obligation that ended up with me co-chairing SafeCom, the public safety/wellness oriented-committee of student government.
Usually it wasn't a great deal of fun, but the highlight was when one member of the committee (who was an anarchist, I believe - don't ask) made a really impassioned argument about how traffic lights were oppressive and should be done away with.
It was amazing.
He was extra-fun when we had police (who regularly attended the meetings).

Funnily enough turning off traffic lights is in vogue amongst town planners at the moment.

As far as I'm concerned, one of the few things that our politically retarded state has ever done correctly is to make crap like this illegal. We'd even do well to follow the lead of Canada on this one ( I said something nice about Canada!), and make it illegal for the driver to do anything other than drive the fucking car. That includes twiddling the radio knobs.
And I'd like to see the penalties boosted to the same level as those for drunk driving. If texting is that important to someone, let's free up their hands by taking away their drivers license.

There's a set of lights I drive through on my way to work, and when the lights are broken, which is about twice a year, there's never a queue and the traffic flows more freely.
I suppose the argument is it's more dangerous without lights, but from what I've observed:
No Lights - Most people tend to slow down and look carefully.
With Lights - Approach at breakneck speed to make the green light, then engage hyperdrive to catch them on amber. Bang.

They're just (

While I'm usually against increased regulation (government is intrusive enough already), this is an exception. I've come close to being hit by texters, as have several of my friends (one was hit by a texter). Simply put, the distraction from texting while driving a moving (emphasis on moving) vehicle is too great for drivers to deal with.
