Oh, and the guy responsible for deciding to put interact and jump on the some button needs a swift kick in the dick.
What makes it even worse is that the interaction zones are so damn inconsistent.
You have to get the angle just right when interacting with something, otherwise your boyband member will jump in place. What's worse is that during the jump, the interact prompt briefly flashes up, making the player press the button again, only to jump again.
On top of which, the audio feedback when picking up items has some really unnecessary lag, so you never know if you've properly picked up multiple items, which results in hammering of the interact button, which in return results in even more jumping.
Yeah, this annoys to me no end, but I don't hammer the button so much as gently swoosh Noctis around and hopefully trigger the prompt at which point I have 0.4ms to press the button like it's an agonised slo-mo mini-DDR episode.

And then there's the genius decision to bind lock-on and "open map" to the same button. Well,
half of lock-on. Having to press two buttons in order to lock target is stoopid in the first place, but then having one of those buttons bring up the map if not pressed at the same time as the other makes me rage-spasm.
Just RB for a soft lock-on, man. L3 for a toggle, IIRC. You switch targets by sweeping the right stick. It annoys me to no end anyway.

AND YET I
STILL CAN'T STOP PLAYING.
Yes. This annoys me to no end.
I'm pretty sure I keep playing because I look forward to the next vista past each successive sweep of road, or the strangely ordinary, contemporary atmosphere to everything, and like you said, there's new stuff happening most of the time. I dread the moment when I've criss-crossed the map so many times that that familiarity breeds the especial sort of contempt that leads to seeking out something else to play; it's an unpleasant feeling, like I'm forever expecting to cross the event horizon of a game-imploding singularity.

You know what I think is eventually going to stop me playing it any more?
The fucking Chocobo theme.
It's not even a very good piece of music, but the sodding thing has embedded itself in my brain like a rusty spike thanks to over-exposure. There's never a different tune when you're riding a chocobo. Just the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
NNNNGGGGGYAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Marvellous, now I've remembered the Chocobo music...
I got this on sale, got to a certain point and then didn't play any more. I'm remembering a few things that seemed lazy despite the generally consistent graphical standard.
The shops - why the "ding dong!" for every one? Why is the same guy with the van selling weapons at every gas station?
Why do we get lovely modeled visuals for Ignis' cooking, but no models for pick up items - just a sparkly thing with an indicator?
Also the combat was often me holding the attack button and dodge button alternately. Maybe that's easier difficulty but still, it's nice to feel like you're doing something.
I'm interested to see if you think it's worth carrying on to see more stuff.

There's worse tracks to have stuck in your head. But let's ride this out.

Tough crowd. :(
Here, have another Uematsu banger you can replace it with once we get the ability to play our own soundtracks. It's possibly even more annoying, how about that?
