As (
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/vehicle-hits-crowd-filipino-festival-lapu-lapu-day-block-party-1.7519778) Lapu Lapu Celebrations wound down for Vancouver's Filipino Community, a lone man in an SUV deliberately drove into the crowd, killing eleven people and injuring more than twenty others. More deaths are possible as many victims were critically injured.
The attacker was a 30 year old man, well known to police as suffering mental issues. He was detained by people at the scene and arrested shortly after. He remains in police custody. No motives have been offered for his actions but, at this time, police do not believe it to be an act of terrorism, under Canadian law. That may change as the investigation proceeds.
We are reminded how quickly the lives and work of many can be brutally undone by the cruel actions of one individual. We need to integrate mental health interventions and policing.
I respectfully ask that the members of TTLG resist the temptation to read motives into this event or to ascribe it to larger events and emergent attitudes around the world. Thank you.

It's crazy that these things now seem to be happening every other year. Wasn't that long ago when that rich guy / wannabe cop went on a killing spree during the pandemic.

Like posting about a mass shooting and saying we can't talk about guns or culture. What's the point in posting it then?
