...Unless you're browsing in FTP mode - in which case all files open in internet explorer, internet explorer or alternatively (if you've got firefox installed), internet explorer.
Regards other people's computers - I so much want to be able to carry my desktop around on one of those nifty USB drive dongles - plug it in to any computer and have it temporarily set up with my various preferences, settings, favourite browser etc etc etc.

Oh, ick. If you insist on using Explorer as your FTP client, you surrender all right to complain.

For fuck's sake, did you even read the thread? That's exactly the reason he doesn't use it and said Windows Explorer doesn't cut it for seamless FTP browsing.

The most perfect piece of software ever created.
Split screen navigation, with files getting moved from one side to the other.
Existing plug-ins for just about anything from PKZIP to god knows what.
Shift-click opens the folder in Windows Explorer.
Command prompt at the bottom. Pressing escape changes the entire window to command line.
Take a look at it, you may get some good ideas.

Aha.. the "Send To" thing. I'd forgotten about that because in every version of Windows since 95, I have installed the old Win 95 Send-to Powertoy extension which gives me:
Any Folder... (opens a browse window and lets you copy or move - a
must have)
Clipboard as name (path)
Command line
...and others.
If it stops working on any new version of Windows, I will not upgrade, I swear. I haven't the foggiest idea if/where you can still even get the thing, but if anybody wants it... (
http://www.ttlg.com/msledd/stuff/SendToX.zip) HERE
Unzip the two files then right-click>install on the sendtox.inf. You can then delete the two files. Any of the new items in your send to menu can be removed by simply deleting them from the Send To folder.
jay pettitt: about the sidebar that doesn't go away, I think you're referring to the Windows XP fluff-bar... Go to TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS and select "Use Windows Classic Folders".
BlackErtai on 19/3/2006 at 21:08
Gracias MsLedd. I'll give it a try next time I get more shows to rename.

That's the one. I guess what I was trying to say was: if you're going to have sidebars, they should all work the same way.

I would like to see it very Secure, I don't want phantom copies, all over the place, and when its delete, its gone for good even if the FBI is looking for it...Ketch my meaning...

For more ideas, check (
http://www.altap.cz/salam_en/compare.html) Servant Salamander as well - for me to consider any file manager worth a dime, it must have most of the functionality of Salamander.
Mingan on 20/3/2006 at 03:33
@kingofthenet : For file deletion, the file manager would have to overwrite and delete the disk space as much as 20 times to remove the faint magnetical residue. It'd be easier to encode the data you want protected.
So a suggestion : good encryption scheme for securing sensitive(ahem  ) material.
