I am having some trouble killing the Demon you encounter a little while after entering the temple of Akbaa. I am trying to first mass paralyze it and then give it a solid mana drain which does seem to do some damage, but it ends up killing me every time :( . How can I prepare for this battle?

This is probably not the standard way of dealing with this nasty:
I created a field in the middle of the room and "danced" around it: the demon tries to go through it, but can't.
I tries to 'claw' you but can't reach you, at precisely that moment you have the opportunity to strike it with a close combat weapon....
this worked quite well... no personal damage; only a slight reduction in the mana pool.

The way I did it was precast 3 fireball, then just before the demon attacked, I cast rhaa vitae. By repeatedly slashing with my sword, and fireballing it, I was able to defeat it with only minor damage. You may want to run around the central altar to give you some breathing room while the demon tries to get around it. Also, run backwards, so it doesn't get you from behind.
I also casted movis communicatum on it and told it to attack itself...it didn't. Poo :p :D

I ended up defeating it another way:
I cast an Ahm Fridd Spacium to make an ice field. And then I circled the field so the demon would stay in it and catch a severe cold :)
