Hi Guys,
I am a newbie here (also to Morrowind the game) and I have a question that I think I know the answer to just need verification.
I have just started playing the game and am currently a level 3 and am a Journeyman for the fighters guild out of Balmora. I was instructed to obtain a code book from a lady at the south wall corner club (her name eludes me at the moment). When I talk to her and ask her about the book she tells me she has no idea what Im talking about. So I think that I need to gain more personality in order for her to cooperate. Is this true? If it is, is there a good way of leveling up my personality (I am a redguard, and have speechcraft as a minor skill).
Thank you all in advance and I look forward to frequenting the boards:thumb:
Regards,
Matt

Hello.
You can still advance in the Fighters' Guild without completing this quest, especially if...
... you've decided to campaign against the Camonna Tong. If you've joined the Thieves' Guild or Hlaalu House or paid a visit to (Lucius Varro?) after hearing rumours from various NPCs in Balmora, you'll probably want to do this through loyalty to your Guilds anyway.

The Ald'ruhn Fighters' questgiver recommends you *not* kill to complete the code book quest, and later gives you the opportunity to kill the Balmora Fighters' quest giver. This eliminates the need for the Code Book quest, and allows you to advance anyway.
Hi matt,
Welcome to the wonderful world of TTLG :)
Try (
www.m0use.net/~uesp/morrow/quest/mw_fighters.shtml#codebook) this link for a complete walkthrough of the quest you're stuck with. If you poke around that website, you'll find a lot of other useful info as well, including tips for newbies and similar walkthroughs for just about every quest in the game.
As Quick said, it's mostly a matter of increasing her disposition towards you. To increase your speechcraft skill you simply need to use it as much as you can, although of course this will be a slow process. For instant results you could try using some Telvanni Bug Musk (a potion which gives a temporary boost to your personality, making people like you a lot more) You can buy it at most inns and some shops....
If all else fails, just kill the awkward bint and yank the book out of her cold, dead hands

Thank you for the replys. This is my first time playing any game of this series and I underestimated how expansive the game is. I think Im gonna go get some bug musk and a couple hundred dollars and see if I can woo her over.
Thanks:thumb:

if you want to increase your ability to raise disposition, which it sounds like you do, just go persuade those people that wonder around town aimlessly. try admire for awhile, even if there at zero disposition you can still be succesful. If you keep tryin admire and nothin happens switch to intimidate and taunt. just becareful cuz when you taunt they are likely to fight you.
also, i suggest this to all newbies, pick up a common ring, get a soul gem with a trapped soul or trap the soul yourself, and enchant it with a levitate spell. you can go to someone at the mages guild for this. this will save you so much time cuz you can just fly over the mountains instead of walking around.
and one last thing.... get the boots of blinding speed. theyre somewhere by gnaar mark i think. on the west coast, you only have to excort some girl to the city. really easy.

Or as some of our more.. "creative pragmatists" have pointed out, you can always just lead her into someplace dangerous and let her die (or even kill her yourself), and save yourself the time and effort of escorting her ;)
