Maybe if we had some sort of system that would allow us to go back and determine what was actually said, instead of allowing one self-appointed, blindly oblivious arbiter of the discussion to pretend that things only happened the way he saw them...

It makes you so mad, you'll have to watch the next game I guess, just to see if any such awful misjudgements happen again. Haha
That's where you're wrong, as I already pointed out these decisions actually reduce my interest in the sport, rather than increasing it. Yeah of course I'll yell about the game I saw, but I'll also be less likely to wake up at 4 in the morning the next day because I'm bored of watching games get ruined by poor officiating.
Any good referee will tell you that they are doing their job right when they don't get noticed. They aren't the reason we watch sport, the players are. Quite often poor refereeing/umpiring occurs when the officiator decides that they have to be part of the spotlight.

If you're going to have a discussion on the facts, then get them right and don't misattribute other people's responses to me.
Since I'm holding one side of this argument and apparently the rest of
you (plural) are holding the other, I was addressing the group.

Now you are arguing, to varying degrees, for replacing human judgement in all decisions that are the referee's authority.
See?
A simple search of this thread (using said documentary device, because a forum is clearly the same as a football game) also could have revealed to you by whom the cited remarks were made.

I'm not a football fan.
I think your first post on this topic says it all.

Just wait until the refs start sucking extra hard on purpose to get free publicity for their most recent album or whatever, that's when you'll really start to wonder if they're necessary.

People are odd aren't they? In RL and on here every so often someone who I think is really normal and sensible comes out with some insane shit (like Scots and Indy 4, or the discussion about the Wire vs frakking Midboring Murders). Oh, and Koyla and line tech in football.

Or how to solve the israel-palestine situation? ;)
