England were pretty good, although they did resort to long-ball uselessness when Rooney got taken off. They may scrape past Germany, Serbia or Ivory Coast (whichever gets top of the group) next round by virtue of a better performance or a dodgy decision, but they'll get stuffed by Messi et al in the Quarters.
Big congrats to the USA, Dempsey was nearly crying while being interviewed, it meant that much to him. (edit - it may have been Landon Donovon, since he scored the goal).

England runners up.
States top the group.
You'd have had good odds on that a few weeks ago.
Most certainly did! Well done both, and respect to Birsa and Dedič. But in the end it was England (until subbing out Rooney) playing like England for once in this tournament. Bring on the Germans!

:( GGs Aus. Almost seemed like another last minute miracle was on its way.
Doubly disappointing because I was so looking forward to my native England knocking out Aus in the round of 16 :sly: Ah well, bring on ze Germans. :D

I know this thread is about the football, but we actually split-screened the Germany-Ghana game so we could watch Mahut vs Isner at Wimbledon, which was the longest game of professional tennis ever. Strangely gripping to watch two players dead-on-their-feet, but couldn't not watch Ghana.
Edit - just seen the highlights of the USA-Algeria game, and I'm glad Algeria have gone out, they looked a dirty team. One of their players was screaming at the ref from 1 metre away, and then acts all "who, me?" when the ref books him for dissent.

A little bittersweet that the Aussies went out on goal difference alone. If they hadn't been raped so badly by Ze Germanz then they would've had a crack at the knockout stage - that said, they are a pretty dismal team and need to train harder for the international stage.
Also I'm confused, Geebs, why the hell are you supporting England?

Because they're a good team and I hate the Argies. :grr:

thankfully the mother country got it done, should have been more like 3 - 0 though

After watching a bit of highlights last night, Argentina are looking unstoppable.
