Yeh what a wang, part of the soundtrack to my college days. Plus what an amazing vocalist he was. Break that rusty cage dude.

My number one vocal influence. I am crushed utterly. I had just taken my girlfriend to see Soundgarden in Kansas City on Sunday too.
I wish I could have told him how much his music meant to me. I know he heard it all the time from thousands of people, but man...
I haven't felt this shitty in a while.
Euphoria Morning was basically on repeat during my divorce. His stuff really carried me through.
Godammit, Chris. :(
Say Hello 2 Heaven, friend.
EDIT: Tribute to my main man:

Aww man, I was listening to the first Audioslave album a few weeks ago, after I'd re-watched Vanishing Point and been reminded of the Audioslave vid that used footage from it.

Lotta good songs on that album!
And I don't care what anyone says, I liked his Casino Royale theme as well.

I loved his Casino Royale theme. I didn't know when we went to see it and was very pleasantly surprised. The people I went with were baffled!
I am a massive Soundgarden fan, natch. I saw Chris last year at The Royal Albert Hall and Soundgarden the year before in Berlin. It was a Black Sabbath concert but we went just to see Soundgarden and left after War Pigs (which was great though).
They ended with Beyond The Wheel. It was great.
This one hit hard. We've lost a lot of greats in recent years but man this is the worst. I'm struggling to believe he took his own life, despite what the medical examiner says.
I've been listening to Badmotorfinger on my commute home. It's my favourite Soundgarden album. Mind Riot's lyrics really got to me.
RIP

Been bummed about this all day - I wish I would have seen him more recently than Lollapalooza back in 92. Loved just about everything he's done - Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog (though I admit I don't know some of his more recent solo stuff). But he was great, just the quintessential rock and roll voice.
I remember for the Lollapalooza show they were billed 5th out of 7 bands, which just seems crazy now.
So a local radio station does something called The 5 O'Clock Shadow every day at 5PM. They play an original song, and then they play a cover of that song. Today was Nothing Compares 2 U. Nothing against Prince, but I've never been a big fan of Sinead's version. But then Chris Cornell comes along and proves he can make any song great.

Also, no offense to N'Al, but this should have been the title of this thread:

This is a huge loss...Wow, I'm really affected by this...:(
Without question, he was one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
Rest well, Chris...You will be remembered forever.

The best thing Cornell has done since Layne died has been over the past several years. He began performing those classic Mad Season songs. Since you are obviously a massive fan of this era of music then you know that Laynes band Mad Season was his most creative music. And here Cornell started performing those tracks live. Possibly the only other person who could perform them, next to Layne himself. Very tragic day indeed.

So you're saying the best thing he did was cover the best thing someone else did? Which I disagree with btw, Dirt and Jar of Flies ftw. Note: I'm not dissing Mad Season. Layne was always great.
I doubt Chris agreed either. I saw him solo last year and he didn't play any. Jimmy Page was a special guest (in the audience) and I reckon Chris would have been doing his best.
He was such a chilled and personable stage presence. I still can't believe it was suicide and the story doesn't quite add up.
Ha ha. Damn straight. Lots of SG Vs AS Vs TotD opinions at the moment.
On another note: I'm on a train and Pretty Noose has just come on. I'd like to think Chris would see the funny dark side to that.
PS. All the grunge vocalist heros are gone now. :( And all too young.
PPS. Goldmoon and I have something in common apart from being sentient (I'm not even sure if this lol) meat boxes! :D
