That does send me back to the warm fuzzy 80s but That 70s Show sends me even fuzzier back. It's like they cut my brain into pieces and made different characters from each piece. Maybe. It's a bit fuzzy.

I ordered the first season of Northern Exposure, seems good. I've watched Titus and Shameless but neither was the kind of series i was looking for.
Some anime might be good, if there's anything similar to My Neighbour Totoro which is incredible feel-good and cosy in just the righ way.. I'll check out Azumanga Daioh.

If you're checking that one out I'm going to say Ouran High School Host Club again because the wikipedia summaries make them look like they're pretty much the same show. (and Ouran is ridiculously feel-good so if Azumanga is the same by the time you finish watching both you'll be so blissed out you'll actually have anime eyes)

At the risk of sounding all mainstream and sheeple-like, There's a sitcom called 'Big Bang Theory' on one of the big three (not sure which - I watch it online) that's actually given me a few laughs. Four nerd/MIT guys living across the hall from a hottie. Usually good for a few sci-fi/gamer jokes and it's a *little* less hackneyed than most stuff in this genre. Not saying it's the greatest thing ever, but for a "feel-good" bedtime show, not too shabby.

As has already been pointed out, Northern Exposure should be exactly what you're looking for. I'd also add (

Big Bang Theory is on CBS, and it features the kid who played Russ from Christmas Vacation all growed up.

Another great choice. It's not as good as Northern Exposure on any front, but it's got a lot of charm.

Yep, Due South. Anything with a wolf-dog named Diefenbaker gets my vote.
Also great for making pointed fun of Canadian stereotypes with its tongue firmly in cheek. Shame they couldn't keep the detective Vecchio character for the entirety of the last 2 seasons.

Ed (starring (
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0146915/) Thomas Cavanagh) and Picket Fences were terrific.
I loved MacGyver and The Greatest American Hero as a child.
The topic of hilarious anime though? Definitely FLCL, Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu (skip the other two series, they're are pretty terrible).
-Haruhi Suzumiya tries too hard and is just pathetic.
-I dunno about School Rumble, the manga left groaning at the lame gags and frankly bored out of my skull - it might work actually work in animated form.
-Excel Saga is supposed to be good, but I haven't seen it though.
