I would like some feedback as to your immediate impressions of the following:
(

Does this appear to be an improvement over the originals. I have textured them the way I want, however since I suck at that, I'd prefer commentary on the geometry more, if you only want to focus on one aspect or the other. Thanks.
Sorry about the big picture but its the only important part of the thread and the only one i plan to post.

Weell, I know this sounds negative, but I honestly think you did a good job overall. Now for the negative bits.
1. The virus gun specifically notes the barrel as being hexagonal in the description
2. Bit unsure about the teeth for the worm launcher, but not a particularly big thing
3. Textures look a bit dodgy.

I know it sounds bad, but I do honestly think they are a good effort. You chose perhaps the two most difficult guns to model however-I suggest you have a look at the pistol/shotgun/grenade laucher/assault rifle first, before trying something as trick as these two.

Hexagonal??? Totally missed that. But then I guess I would if I didn't read the description...maybe the string files can be changed to accomadate the new one :ebil:

Looks awesome.. :) If you could someone to retexture them it would be extreme !

Unfortunatly, to me, it always sounded like they added the "Hexagonal barrel" comment because they couldn't get the model to look "round"

It would be a weird reason from my point of view, doesn't the Dark engine allow more polygons p/model than what the exotic guns have?
RocketMan on 16/10/2007 at 16:59
I really don't that 1000 limit "rule of thumb" we've heard about really matters if you make a good mesh (ie. no killer sliver triangles - "who made this???") lol. I've successfully imported stuff with 5000 polygons. Of course the more experienced modellers will probably advise against this.
BTW what do you all think of ANIMATED PULSATING WORMSSSS ?
Assidragon on 18/10/2007 at 08:58
How the heck did you do that? Every single bloody time I try to get SS2 render some model above ~2100 polies, it hangs instantly.

LOL :D Please...don't hurt me.
It was just a tank-like object I did for somebody else when i was more noobish than i am now. I had a ridiculous number of redundant polies and they were mostly in the same planes so i'm not surprised the conversion tools allowed it. It wasn't some fractal or anything. It seems to me that errors occur when poly angles get excessive (or when overall poly dimensions get very tiny) moreso than when poly counts get high.

Texturing is the clincher, you can get a very high poly model to work if it's not textured.
