I've been trying to decide on some nice constant effect enchantments recently, and I've noticed that there seems to be no point to using feather.
e.g. If you have an item with 75 enchant points on it that will allow you either 15 points of feather or 15 points enhanced strength. However each point of extra strength allows you to carry an extra 5 weight (as well as presumably improving the damage the you deal in combat).
So is there any point to feather e.g. can you jump better with feather rather than enhanced strength?

You can also ask the question "What do I want for my character ?"
If you are playing a Brute warrior, you should take STR. Doesn't matter what is the best The stronger, the better.
If you are playing a sophisticated mage, you should pick feather. What you gonna do ? some push-ups to carry more ? I'll pick the magic effect instead.
Instead of allways asking "what is the best ?" you should keep in mind that you are playing an RPG (kinda :cheeky: ) and should ask yourself "What suits my character ?" or "What do I think is cool ?"
see ? :)
Cheers,
Tar.

But I'm doing this for an enchantment (i.e. I am quite magical) so there are no push-ups involved. If I was a sophisticated mage (I'm actually more of a sophisticated thief/assasin hence the question about jumping) I'd be making sure that I got the most out of any enchantment I made :)

I'd run a search on here, were I you; I know that WingedKagouti did an in-depth analysis of the two. If memory serves, he said strength was better, but you'd be better served by finding exactly what he said as he dug up quite a bit of subtle detail.

Strength is best. Feather reduces your encumberance whereas strength increases your ability to carry X5 for each point of strength. Also skills that use strength benefit from a higher strength as well.

I think of feather as something you cast to get you from the temple (after casting intervention) to the nearest shopkeeper after scoring some nice daedric armour or some such, while strength is a more versitile skill. I'd get strength for an enchantment and make a nice strong feather spell for bearing especially heavy loads.
Also, you may already know this, but when you enchant a constant effect fortify skill item, the best way to do it is with a magnitude of 1-15 (or whatever you can fit) rather than going for 10-10 (or whatever you can max out), because each time you equip the item, the effect is randomly determined. So simply by repeatedly re-equiping you can secure the higher maximum. Super easy, and can give you several extra point of power!
Have fun!

Ok thanks, I did try searching initially but came up with nothing, I'll have another go.

to me to be exploiting the game a bit much.
Tribunal just arrived today too, so I'm going to have a busy weekend :)
edit:Found the post, looks like I'm going for enhanced strength :)

but you have to keep in mind that if you have a constant effect boosting your STR above 100, and something drains your STR, that when the duration expires or your ability is restored on another way, and you still have equipped the item, your stats will be 100 INCLUDING the boost from the item.

Just take off the item and use restore spell/potion/ingredient, then reequip it.
