F.E.A.R. Shock - by MrTrip

In my spare time, I decided to learn how to edit levels in F.E.A.R.
If you haven't played FEAR, its a really cool game.
(

I do suggest checking it out..
Anyway, I learned that I can very easily import sounds, textures, and other things into FEAR from various sources, one being System Shock 2.
One of my little projects to help me learn the editor is to remake Med\Sci in FEAR with half-way working storyline.
No, I'm not making custom models...
No, I'm not making it 100% like the original...
Its just a little project to brighten up Med\Sci and add a few new scary features to it.
The level its self will not be split into two like in the original game since FEAR can have much bigger levels without the quality loss. The weapons will be different of course and the AI will be much more intelligent.
Sorry folks...no zombies in this one though. Just some rogue soldiers and a few..."surprises".
I'll be getting some quick videos out of little things I accomplish over the next few weeks.
Sorry no screen shots right now, but I'm currently working on the Cry Recovery Area of Med\Sci.
I'll post screen shots when I have the shell carved. :thumb:

This project sounds very nice, I wonder what visual magics you can do with the graphical quality the engine offers.

I have all ready experimented.
I imported the sound of Xerxes telling you that security forces have been alerted, and told two soldiers to dive through a window, kick in a door, take cover and shoot.
Also an advantage over the dark engine is I can move brushes in game. In DromEd (ShockEd) you can't make brushes move, only objects. In FEAR I can make walls break away, make custom doors, make hidden passages even more hidden, and make just about anything animated.
And best of all its actually pretty simple.

I can't wait for screenshots. :)
By the way, are you gonna modify stuff like movement speed, bobbing, etc.? Because the SS2 and FEAR way of doing it are very different.

Probably not if it involves a lot of work. I'm doing it mainly to learn how to manage brushes, create effects, and properly use triggers and storyline stuff.
I just picked Shock2 because I know how to use DromEd pretty good and I can have that open in one monitor, and WorldEdit open in another. :thumb:
I will clean up a lot of things and fix some weird things..
Like this for example...why is there a ladder going to the cryo tube?...did they carry the patients down over their shoulders? :laff:

I have NO idea. :p
Are you gonna put a ramp or stairs there instead?

You're switching out character models, yeah? Did you find a tutorial for that somewhere, or did you figure it out yourself? Because damned if I've been able to find anything useful in that regard, since the FEAR modding community is one of the worst modding communities ever.

The bizarre and inconsistent layout of the levels in ss2 is truly one of its most enchanting features.

No, models are staying the same, its just the design of the level, some new effects, and a smarter AI.
Its just a level to practice with and play around with.
When its done I'll release the source for anybody who wants to make some kind of Shock2 based FEAR FM

I love working in the JupiterEX engine and its level editor. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's pretty nice. And definately a lot better than Source :p
Have fun
