I'm sorry, I've read this thread, and the three others, but since I've not played shock1 through, I don't know all of the backstory.
I was just wondering what happened and when?
Citadel Station was orbiting Saturnus in shock1? Is this told in either of the games? And while orbiting Saturnus, it dropped the grove? This is told somewhere too?
The VB/RB combo stopped at tau ceti 5, where the grove sent it's distress signal?
How'bout grove w/ shodan hitched a ride on a passing flagship only to drop down to tau ceti 5?

Citedel was by one of Saturns moons. Or one of the planets. Or something.
You, as the hacker, ejected the grove from the station. It then travelled an impossible distance to where the VB/RB found it.
Or else the FTL drive took a wrong turn. That's the thing about unmapped space. It's hard to know if you got the right destination.
The VB/RB remain joined throughout the entire game. A small scout pod thingy investigates the planet.
It's unlikely the grove hitched a ride, as the VB is the first human ship capable of FTL speed. Meaning if another craft carried it out there, it belonged to one of the various alien races mentioned in this thread.
