Groza 5.56? Do you mean Barin's modified 5.45 Groza? The 'normal' Groza uses 9x39 ammo, then there's the modified one that uses 5.45 ammo. I've never heard of a 5.56 Groza. The Groza 5.45 is the weapon that I use almost all the time. The first thing I do when I get to the Bar for the first time is to locate Barin, then follow him around until he is either killed by dogs, or leaves the Bar area, in which case I kill him to get his weapon.
As for the Sniper VAL, I never got it. In order to get it one has to do a mission for Voronin, which is to kill the Freedom stalkers in the village in the Army Warehouses area (one of them is Murk, which I mentioned in the other thread), and I don't like to kill Freedomers. But maybe in this run I'll try doing it, using the trick to kill them without getting the blame for it.

Yes, I guess I mixed up calibers. And who is Barin? :)

I can't get this quest either. Voronin started another quest cycle already, still no 'kill the Freedom stalkers'. Maybe he gives it only after 'kill Poke' quest which I also didn't get because I killed Poke long before I met Voronin.

Barin is a Dutyer hanging around the Bar. Sooner or later he leaves it, and very often is killed by the dogs near the exit to the Garbage. I've also seen him being killed by the anomaly in the middle of the road near the transition point from the Garbage to the Bar. If he's not killed in any of those places, then I usually try to kill him. I just have to wait until he leaves the Bar.
There is also another possibility of getting the Groza 5.45 earlier in the game, but it's a lot more difficult. Sidirovitch has it for sale right at the start of the game. But if you perform any quest, it disappears. So if you're able to gather 20K without performing any quest, you can buy it from Sid. That's something I'll try to do in the future.
In my current game I'm progressing very slowly, trying to perform all quests for each NPC sequentially, instead of getting multiple quests from many different NPCs. So I'm hoping that I can get that quest from Voronin.

Thanks for info.
Now I'll try to find the corpse of Barin (if it still hasn't disappeared), or maybe just the Groza near transition point or along the way from Bar to Garbage, I saw a group of 5 guys was ripped by a 'go round' anomaly there, that was a nice show :)
And where Barin ends up if he manages to survive?
As for the VAL with scope, I guess I should try anb accomplish some more quests for Voronin even though they're repeating already. Maybe there is a certain counter of random missions which triggers the quest.

I'm currently on my sixth run through the game. So far, this is what happened to Barin:
- First two runs, I have no idea. I didn't know that he had a unique weapon, so I never bothered with his fate;
- Third run: I found his body in the pit outside the Bar, on the way to the Garbage, where he must have been killed by the dogs.
- Fourth run: I never found his body, but instead I found his weapon near the anomally right before the transition point from the Garbage to the Bar.
- Fifth run: I found him alive and well in the Duty control post at the Garbage. I was desperate for his Groza, so I stabbed him and, surprisingly, none of the other Dutyers reacted. I don't know if I was just lucky and none of the others saw my silent kill, since it was the middle of the night.
- Current game: I found him wandering in the Bar area near the transition point to the Army Warehouses. As I was following him from a distance, surprisingly a pack of three Pseudodogs showed up coming from the AW, so I lured them towards Barin and they proceeded to kill him.

I tried SIG550 - grenade launcher didn't attach (M203).
That's weird because the weapon files I extracted from the original gamedata archives gives the Sig550 the following attributes for addons:
;addons
scope_status = 0;2
silencer_status = 0;2
grenade_launcher_status = 2
As for the values, 0 means it doesn't have it, 1 means it has a built in version and 2 means you can attach one to it. As I said, It's been a while since I played an unmodded version of stalker so I can't remember much about weapon addons.
D'Arcy, all weapons have the following values for how they are affected by silencers:
fire_dispersion_base = 0.18
cam_dispersion = 0.15
hit_power = 0.44, 0.48, 0.51, 0.54
hit_impulse = 140
fire_distance = 400
bullet_speed = 930
silencer_hit_power = 0.44
silencer_hit_impulse = 120
silencer_fire_distance = 250
silencer_bullet_speed = 600
These are the defaults for the LR300 both with an without a silencer. the top two values, fire_dispersion_base and cam_dispersion affect bullet spread and camera movement when firing. These are not affected by silencers. Instead, silencers affect the range, bullet speed, damage and physical force.

D'Arcy, thanks.

Nice. I didn't know the shooting model was so sophisticated in the game.
But the launcher really doesn't attach to SIG. Not that I care, SIG isn't the best weapon out there with or without launcher. The best is Groza+sniper rifle combo (either Vintar or SVD). F2000 should be good too though, but I don't remember its characteristics, I judge only by its position in the 5.56 weapon line and price.

I knew that my intuition should be right, and that using a silencer wasn't a good idea :)

I found using a silencer is actually pretty useful. It allows you to kill most baddies without their friends realizing it. I find it pretty useful for my hyper-cautious and easily frightened method of playing the game.

Well, I got that VAL with a support for scope.
One has to accomplish a certain amount of quests for Voronin, then he'll give 'Kill Freedomers in a village' quest - reward is the weapon. It probably will require you to accomplish some repeating quests, but don't mind, the wanted quest will become available sooner or later. Soon enough after getting the VAL and continuing to do quests for him I went to a point were he said 'I have no quests for now'.
About the weapon. It definitely doesn't fit for close combat - low rate of fire compared to Groza, even though damage is exacly the same (according to graph). And I'm currently not sure about its advantage over Vintar in sniping.
It has 20-round magazine compared to 10-round Vintar has which is very helpful, and it seems more accurate, but damage is lesser. Not by much, but I'm not sure that increase in accuracy and capacity compensates lesser damage. So I have a hard time deciding what is better for Radar and further as I don't plan to return - Vintar or this modified VAL. Probably sniper VAL is better on the whole, but not by much...
