I tried my damnedest to save Malik; to no avail. Just couldn't do it! Broke my heart to see her lying there all dead & everything later down in the parking garage. I was shocked to see she had a big bullet hole in her head; I thought she died during the explosion. Why was her body there anyhow? Were they trying to cannibalize her augs or something? Bloody bastards. You don't know how badly I wanted to level that whole area. I, too, kind of expected some sort of explanation from Tong about why Malik's body was there.
Bloody bastards.

Come on, it's not that hard, maybe if you're playing on a console and have to combat the controls as well as the enemies.

Saving Malik (non-lethally) was one of the moments I enjoyed the most in the game. Once I realized I couldn't save her by sitting back and sniping with the tranquilizer rifle (I had mostly gone the slow-and-steady route up to that point in the game), I tried a new approach. I turned on cloaking and jumped down into the middle of the fray. I started scarfing down energy bars I'd been hoarding forever and flitted around the whole area like Batman, using a combination of take-downs, non-lethal weapons and the EMP grenade, taking out the biggest threats first and then mopping up the rest. It was all over in less than a minute (at least that's what it felt like) and then I stood there feeling like a total bad-ass.

I consider myself a good player and I couldn't do it either. Why don't you shove off, vH?

And you had a right to feel that way. Well done! Maybe I'll try the non-lethal approach next time (and there
will be a next time) since going in balls-out & guns blazing obviously didn't work for me the first five times around.

If you do what Malik asks and make a beeline for the elevator, then
as the elevator goes up you see 3 Belltower goons slap her around and then shoot her in the head execution-style.I've completed the rescue a couple times now - once with shotgun and once with combat rifle - a lot of it comes down to target priority. There's 3 Belltower heavies with gatling guns that you need to take out quickly. 2 approach the chopper from near the elevator, and one from the opposite side. I typically go for the 2 near the elevator first, as that puts me near the bot-drop just in time to throw an EMP at it.

I kept a pistol with a bunch of upgrades with me in case I ever hit a point where I wanted to go lethal, so it was basically bang bang bang headshot city from the hip thanks to the laser. Didn't have any EMP nades for the bot so I shot it periodically to keep its attention away from Malik while I ran around scavenging ammo from the guards.

Yup. I think it's implied that
Belltower give the Harvesters her body. That's pretty much what they do, by the looks of it, it's explained for you and you can see the whole thing in action when
you follow that active GPS tracker and it leads you to Tong, as he's upgrading himself with Sevchenko's arm. I think it's also implied they don't scavenge augs only off
corpses, either. Definitely the most sinister bunch to grace the DX universe yet.

I guess I wasn't paying attention .... again. I get far too myopic during gameplay sometimes. I usually have to play the game again to get even blatant details to register.
I just couldn't believe it when I saw Malik just lying there. Guess I took it personally. Glad they didn't show her all hacked up.
