I spent about an hour with FC Primal on my cousin's PS4 last weekend. Initial impressions are... meeeh. Mostly it just feels like FC3/4 with a lot of the good stuff (cars, wingsuits, grenadelaunchers, etc.) stripped out. This would be ok if there were some interesting new gameplay elements to fill the void, but at least in my (admitedly brief and early-game) time with it, I didn't find much to be excited about. You can tame tigers and wolves to help you, they're about as exciting as Dogmeat was in Fallout 4. An owl replaces your binoculars, it's ok. The most exciting new gameplay feature I discovered was that you can set your club on fire and then hold the attack button to extend it in front of you, letting you light pretty much anything on fire. The weapons are largely melee weapons, but there's no fun melee combat system in place, instead you just hit the attack button to swing your club or prod with your stick. That's it. MEH! MEH TBH!
Maybe it gets better later on.

It didn't get better!
HEY EVERYONE I'm playing this for real now. And I pretty much stand by my initial assessment. Not to say it's not a good game, mind. The underlying stealth systems are still as solid as ever, and it's a great big chunk of new landscape to explore. Also, in order to make it apropriately primitive I've disabled a good 3/4 of the HUD elements, including aiming reticle and minimap. Having a nice clean screen not cluttered by objective markers and indicators is nice, but the biggest change to how the game plays is definitely the removal of the minimap. I'm having to rely more on landmarks for navigation. There's a couple of giant moutainpeaks to the east I've been using to get my bearings.

Whaaaaaaat. I would've never noticed that. :D

It doesn't come as a surprise, they did the same thing with Blood Dragon and Far Cry 3.
Although at least they acknowledged that Blood Dragon was essentially a glorified standalone mod by pricing it accordingly. Whereas Far Cry Primal has a AAA price to match the game it's based on. Yet another reason to hate Ubisoft.

Yeah, that is pretty lazy (and awful) for a $60 game. Hopefully some bad press on this will drop the price point sooner - I would like to try this out, but not at AAA prices.
