Guess the embargo lifted today, as a pile of reviews suddenly popped up.
(
http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/far-cry-5?ref=hp) 81% avg on PC and PS4, 89% on XBone
Who here is getting it on launch, and on what platform? I've played the last 2 on PS4 but I'm leaning towards PC for this one.

I've yet to play FC4, even though I've had it for years now. I think I'm giving FC5 a miss, seeing how it looks like pretty much the same game yet again.
... at least until I hear that people here really love it and it's great, in particular as a coop game. At that point I may very well cave in.

Isn't it only 2-player co-op?

Definitely picking this up tomorrow, PS4.

Yup, those screenshots are fantaaaa as fuck, but has this game got anything on the actual (
https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/647803) greatest game ever made?
I THINK NOT.
neither Eva's posts nor my rejoinders to his bizarre stream of consciousness gallery should ever be considered safe for work or humanity in general, just so we're clear

Usually I find Giant Bomb lock most of their content behind a paywall, but their review of this is (
https://www.giantbomb.com/reviews/far-cry-5-review/1900-781/) available for public consumption.
I was probably not going to buy the game anyway, but that definitely makes it one I can pass up for the time being.

At this point, I'm just going to call it: their bizarre corporate formula of feature checkboxing mashed together with half-hearted attempts at cultural criticism whilst simultaneously appropriating said cultures for gamespaces makes for an experience that is cognitive dissonance par excellence from the opening credits onwards. I like my games to be a unified experience without their component parts playing tug of war with each other, and this just isn't that, and hasn't been for a while now.

Thematically, I still think the "Heart of Darkness" story of FC2 was the best in the series. It didn't fuck about and made you realise that the country it was taking place in was worse off because of the involvement of outside influences, yourself included.
Here it seems like Ubi had a chance to really lay in to the religious right and gun culture of the Midwest, but wussed out, probably in order to avoid alienating a large proportion of their customers. And that lack of commitment seems to have weakened the overall package.
