FC4 has an alternative ending which can be triggered in the first 20 minutes of the game:

(Spoilers for the opening bit, and after 10:20 maybe spoilers for the end as well, depending on if Min is telling the truth or just bullshitting you.)
I like this. When the bad guy tells you to wait a moment while he goes and takes care of some business it's obviously videogame speak for "this is the part where you're supposed to sneak out", and I'm delighted to see a big triple-A title actually give you the option to not do the obvious thing.

So, uh, when are we getting the Far Cry 4 subforum? :cheeky:
This guy clearly has no understanding of what gave Looking Glass it's competitive edge.

The competitive edge that caused it to close down 15 years ago?
And FC3/4 are nothing like any LGS games I've played. I think LGS would have crafted environments that weren't boring as all hell, and probably wouldn't have gone the stealth-for-dummies route.

Read up on the business history. Looking Glass had developed a powerful set of strengths with its late games, but it was "too little too late" to save the company from its previous disasters.
Given how bad the convergent negative events on their business were it's a testament to their development prowess that they were able to survive as long as they did. Had it been anyone else the company would have died long before the release of The Dark Project.

It probably would have helped if, of all the games they developed, more than one had been a hit.
The "no, really, Eidos closed us down even though we were making tons of cash for them" thing has never made any sense to me at all.

Oh I don't know. Are the rolling green hills of FC3/4 really so different from those in Terra Nova? They both complement the gameplay of their games very well. In TN they're for jetpacking off, and in FC they're for wingsuiting off. But yeah, there's definitely room for improvement in FC's world. From a gameplay perspective it's perfect, but it sure could use a whole lot more flavor. Just look at Bethesda's games (Skyrim, Fallout 3) for inspiration, where there's small isolated stories playing out in far out of reach places, and where you can walk into a cave and never be sure what to find. Sometimes it'll be a group of vampires living out of sight of the world, other times it'll be a large, forgotten underground city. When you walk into a cave in Far Cry 4, do you know what you find? 3 chests and a dead guy. It's always 3 chests and a dead guy.

They need somewhere to put all those boring collectables, so I suppose caves with three chests and a dead guy are as good a hiding spot as any. I never understood what the GOTTA CATCH EM ALL Pokemon mentality added to a game like Far Cry 3. Besides nothing.

I think collectables can be a cheap and good way to add content to a game as long as the core gameplay is solid enough that you don't need much incentive to keep playing. F.e. I went back to Red Dead Redemption long after I'd beaten it just to ride around and hunt all the animals and discover all the treasures so I could get the bonus outfits. Did I need those bonus outfits? No, but it was an excuse to keep playing RDR.
