Normally I use Firefox but today was using IE and for the first time ever saw that all the FAQ threads were covered by a bright red band. Completely unmissable. Now this doesn't appear in Firefox - one reason maybe why threads are posted which could easily have been answered by the FAQ (!) - but just wondered why that was.

Were you logged in with another user in IE? For 'newbies' the threads are white on red to make them more visible, but for everyone else and for those not logged in they're normal so as not to look too 'heavy'.

:D That'd be it. I was using bloke's pc and user name. Utterly amazing that people still don't seem to read them.
