As if my early injury crisis wasn't enough  Guess I'll have to start the "Free Ben" campaign.

"On the brink of a red card"!?
Do you only get sent off for stabbing offences now?
edit: this is a dig at the shit commentator rather than the ref, who I don't think had a clear view - I guess he thought it was the advertising hoardings which knocked Mendes out.

Yes, just as he did at Fantasy TTLG World Cup '06, Mr. Dave "Service Unavailable" Cornish has launched himself to the top of the league. OnionBob's tickertape parade is now on hold.
As a helpful measure of how good we all are at this game: if I were to invite the two month old child from the family league I'm <strike>bottom of</strike> a valuable competitor in, he would be in 2nd place.
There will now be a weekend break while plucky Andorra give England a sound thrashing and everyone in your squad gets injured on international duty. Next fixtures - September 9th.

If it weren't for Calum Davenport going for glory by claiming his own goal, Yobo would have brought me up to the dizzying heights of 5th place :nono:
And meanwhile, Shevers himself seems content with scoring for every game Chelsea play which isn't in the Premiership...

Huzzah!
My secret is picking a couple of players I have heard of and then picking a whole bunch of cheaper players because I dropped £11m on Lampard.

I'm just waiting for Henry to start scoring. I've always depended heavily on him in the previous years, and this year won't be an exception. Meanwhile Pompey's Mwaruwari is my most prolific striker.

Time for me to get back to the heavy bias which won me the World Cup league.
By which I mean, I'm off to get Stilian Petrov, and any other Villa player that takes my eye.

Already there's a nice WTF moment before the transfer window closes. (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/5301068.stm) Tevez and Mascherano have apparently been loaned to West Ham from Corinthians.
Despite being one of the largest clubs in Brazil, Corinthians are doing extremely badly this season (they were bottom of the league, last I saw) and are broke. Why are they loaning instead of selling? There's no way they can sensibly afford to do this.
Ahh, it's because the contracts of Tevez and Mascherano are effectively owned and controlled by the company "Media Sports Investments".
Who's rumoured to fund that organisation, then? Oh yes, our good chum Mr. Abramovich.
So I wonder where these two players will be next season.
(Exciting bonus dodginess - Media Sports Investments have tried to buy West Ham United in the past and may very well do so again)

The integrity of the beautiful game takes another (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/5301068.stm) body blow.
Quote:
Argentina striker Carlos Tevez says he and team-mate Javier Mascherano have agreed to sign for West Ham.
The World Cup duo, who both play for Corinthians in Brazil, are set to move to Upton Park on a year-long loan.
Now, with all due respect to West Ham, there is NO FUCKING WAY players of that class should be plying their trade at that level. Fishy business? I think so. Let's look at the evidence:
* Until today, Manchester United were favourites to sign Mascherano and Arsenal to sign Tevez
* Both players are contracted to Media Sports Investment, the shadowy corporation that runs Corinthians of Brazil
* Media Sports Investment is rumoured to be part-owned by Roman Abramovich
* Roman Abramovich owns Chelsea
So what we have here is Abramovich pulling strings to ensure that two world-class prospects don't end up at Chelsea's rivals, while at the same time, allowing the two to bed in to the English league, no doubt in anticipation of a move to Chelsea at some unspecified time in the future.
The whole thing stinks to high heaven. Anyone with the remotest fondness for football should be sickened to the stomach by this.
[EDIT: Damn You Paz, you must have been channeling me or something >:(]
