lol double post
Wacky Transfer Season is starting to hot up! I was rather dubious about Wigan paying £5.5mil for Emile Heskey (well, he was good at Leicester), my eyebrows raised at £6.5mil(?) for Jermaine Pennant's move to Liverpool (maybe useful if he stays out of prison long enough).
However, we have a clear champion at the moment.
Can anyone justify a reported 15-18 million pound transfer for Michael Carrick to Man Utd in any realistic way? Carrick cost £2.4mil about two years ago when West Ham sold him. In those two years he's played for England (a bit) and Spurs have become sort of ok again.
He's clearly not a *bad* player, but umm ... wow.

I agree ;)
Anyway, leaving aside Pennant's dodgy past (because everyone deserves a second chance ;)) there's no doubt that he's probably the most naturally gifted English right-winger around. He made a staggering 497 crosses last season, the most in the league; now imagine a Fowler, Bellamy or Crouch on the end of those rather than a Heskey, Forsell or Pandiani
As for Carrick, remember United still have the £12m of hush money that they got from Chelsea for tapping up John Obi Mikel, so just look at it as getting 80% of Carrick for not reporting Chavski to the authorities.

And it's transfer fees like that that I can use as an excuse for an embarassing Celtic 3-0 loss to Man Utd :nono:
Just makes it all the sweeter whenever we do actually do something in Europe, I guess.

I seriously can't be arsed to format that properly.
Anyway! OnionBob has brought the SERIOUS BUSINESS with a devastating team spine of Terry-Gerrard-Rooney (all English, how bizarre) and sits pretty atop our tree. All this "I don't know about football, honest guv" is rapidly being revealed as a devious hustle. Those nearer the wrong end of the table are already missing the reliable presence of Iggles.
More fixtures on Tuesday. Arsenal and Liverpool are playing in Europe though, so if half of your side come from those clubs (hi) you might want to consider a cheeky in-and-out-for-a-week transfer.

Bob clings to the peak, just shy of a century; but a pack of dogs riding trains are closing in. Brian's Tail Wags (is that WAGS in a tabloid World Cup sense?) have made an admirable lunge for bottom spot. Week winners are Useless Utd with a 43 point plunder in a generally low-scoring session.
Err .. that's about it.

Stirling work keeping us updated Paz. I want more worship though; singing praises to my glory from the e-rooftops, processions in my honour etc.

I must admit that I completely forgot to change my team from the default random selection. You'll have to be trying to be bad to come below me! :p

Might I suggest that anyone with Manchester City's agricultural centre-back Ben Thatcher in their team consider that he's likely to be missing a good chunk of the season (and maybe spending a bit of time in the clink) for last night's (
http://youtube.com/watch?v=DTRaS7ffyWg) appalling assault on Pedro Mendes.
