Ah, it's a maintenance duct? Access to some piping?
Actually, that sparks another question - why are there no air conditioning vents in the bunker?

To prevent UNATCO following the shipment/main force's retreat. There's some conversation you can hear where one goes "we need to give them all the time they can get".

The reason why there is a false floor board in Alex's room is to hide valuable goods. Stuff have been missing for a while and so they made the false floor board.
The NSF cannot assault UNATCO HQ because it was under lock down. Besides UNATCO was fully capable of taking out the comparatively weak NSF force, but they held back to test out JC.
All the maps are pretty small. Limitations of the hardware dictates this.

Nope, it is more complicated than that. Shannon blames it on the janitor and so they decided to hide supplies under Alex's floorboard.

Reaally? Never spotted that; where was this?
ICEBreaker on 7/4/2002 at 04:39
When you return to UNATCO HQ after disabling the NSF generators. You talk to Shannon who decides to spread the rumour that it was the janitor's sticky fingers. She then goes about telling people about the secret floor board in order to increase the number of suspects next time she steals something from the secret floor board.

Does anyone have a screenshot of where exactly this is? I've searched Alex's room top to bottom over a dozen times, and I can't find it.
The Thread Necromancy Warning is amusing, too. :laff:

No screenshot I'm afraid, but it's easy to find if you know where to look. As you enter Alex's office, turn right and you'll see a table, on the floor on the opposite side of the table are two hidden pannels in the floor. Crouch down and move your crosshair around and the action box should highlight them.

ok when you enter alexs office directly right you will see a coffee table, to the right of the table is some floor, aim your mouse on that floor and you will see the text on your indicator signifying that it is a door, now open it and TADA! the secret floor is reveiled!
