Cool Game, i enjoyed playing this one.
Good things: beautifull landscapes, nice design, nice shooting gameplay, interesting storyline.
Bad things: some areas are repetative wich becames monotonous, to much time wasted on searching for items in desks, cabins, trashed...etc. and to much control in the inventary. ( wich weapon to use, witch item to trade, wich item to consume...etc.)...ambient music has nothing to do with the enviroments.
anyway the good things overcome the bad things...so this is a good game.:thumb:
Thanks to the authors for bringing an interesting game;)

I know we already talked about this but I cant' understand it. How is Aphex-Twinesqe electronic music more suitable to a desert wasteland than distinctly western-sounding (western as in the American West) ambient music? Just because there's an occasional harp doesn't mean the music is inappropriate (besides, the soundtrack is full of slide guitar and harmonica).

At the risk of sounding corny here, I'd say most people didn't warm to the FO3 soundtrack because it fails to capture the feeling of loneliness and desolation as well as its predecessors. It made for nice background music, but the tracks in FO1 and 2 really put you in the moment.

What can I say; I loved it. Far FAR above the average orchestral score, and now indelibly linked to the game. I'm downloading the original soundtrack now so I can properly compare, but based on what I have heard, it seems nostalgia's playing a pretty big role here.

That's because they're not that great by themselves. If you want to get the full effect, take a few Fallout 1 tracks (I recommend Desert Winds, City of Lost Angels, and Second Chance), delete the FO3 tracks, and put them in the exploration music folder by themselves. Play the game then, see what you think.

The Xbox is so powerful it can actually allow this to happen. Next time I play FO3 it'll be with the original tracks.

Many Fallout fans didn't even bother to play it too long with the stock soundtrack. Me neither. No way, I played the rest of the tracks from the folder and told myself "This is weak, I'm not gonna play it with this." Basically what Renzatic said. It's even much weaker than Oblivion soundtrack, which was good. The original Morgan's music has appeared among the very first mods for a good reason.
That's more than just nostalgia. It proves that some people actually have better idea how the Fallout world is supposed to sound to create the right kind of atmosphere. :cheeky:
On the other hand, the GNR songs were a big score, unfortunately there's not too many of them.

Well now your opinion makes sense. OF COURSE the music you've been listening to for ten years is going to sound better than what you just heard quickly browsing through the FO3 music folder, out of context. But that's not nostalgia, no, obviously not.

Allow me to bring in a slightly different viewpoint, then - I haven't played Fallout 1 or 2, and I have found Fallout 3's music to be largely unmemorable and non-engaging. Sometimes, I find some of it almost annoying. While the theme of decrepit solitude is definitely recognizable in its tones, it just doesn't imprint that feeling on me, it doesn't "take me there". To each their own, obviously, but I don't think nostalgia is necessarily the major factor here. And don't get me wrong, I love this game to bits and its overall atmosphere has a big role in that.

Okay, I was wrong. These tracks are good. Kinda remind me of old Stars of the Lid, what with all that heavy droning near-horror sort of feel.
But I won't be swapping em out any time soon. They sound dated in comparison. And I like the default atmosphere, which owes a great deal to the real soundtrack.
