This post is really old... why was it bumped back up...

The Twin Lamps ARE joinable. You'll need to release around 30 slaves and then you'll get the password.
Forsythe on 19/8/2002 at 21:49
No, Twin Lamps are not joinable. You are unable to gain any rank with them, you cannot get a listing for them in your 'factions' list, and thus they are not joinale. You can become a friend of the Twin Lamps, but that's all.

um who are the twin lamps. and are the coman tong joinable or not i am awfully confused...and if so please tell me how
True Spirit on 20/8/2002 at 13:43
Yes, well confusion is the word to be in morrowind. In the beginning at least. So the Twin Lamps are the ones in helping slaves being released, and i haven't tried to join yet, but above it says you actually can't. Bummer.
Don't confuse the Cammona Tong with the Morag Tong. The first ones are the old assasins guild of Morrowind who hate the Thieves Guild and (again) they can't be joined, in opposition to the Morag Tong, similar assasin guild, that CAN be joined. If you're in the beginning of the game go to Balmora (they have a manor there) and you'll be sent to Vivec. Sorry can't remember more. :eww:

yes, yes, yes, confusion reigns! so whats the real story with the twin lamps? ive been given the password, but cant find where to join... and if you cant join, why give you the password in the first place??? so, please, will someone who actually knows what they are talking about give up the info?

You don't join the Twin Lamps as such. If you keep freeing slaves, and then visit Jobasha the rare book seller in Vivec, he gives you a reward for helping slaves. And Ilmeni Dren, who lives in St Olms or St Delyns (the westmost one, anyway) is involved with the faction and if you go see her and say the password, she'll give you quests.
Ilmeni Dren id Duke Dren's rebellious sister.
I believe there is a Twin Lamps plugin, too.

The Twin Lamps plugin is very good, I'd recommend it if you're looking to go further with the anti-slavery element of Morrowind, which was no more than embryonic in the original game. You can download it (
http://http://www.morrowindfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=search&query=) right here-looks like it has been expanded and updated since I played it.
As Forsythe said above, in the original game you can do a couple of quests for the Twin Lamps, but only as a an ally, NOT as a member. The password is simply to let the people in charge know you're on their side; it's given to you by the slaves you free, after you free enough of them and ask them about the topic Twin Lamps. Confusingly enough, before giving you the password, they tell you that you ought to be a member, despite the fact that it's not possible :tsktsk: Until you download the plugin :)

Maybe Bethseda(sp?) anticipated a plug-in:eek:

as I understand, Dark brotherhood and black candle are not joinable but are said to be factions since Dark Brtoherhood are rivals with Morag Tong, I dunno about Black Candle
Twin Lamps can't be joined but if ya release over 50 prisoners ya will get a password but ya still can't join them but as Jordana said ya can with the plug-in
I can't remember how but ya can join Redoran and Telvanni even if ya are in Hlaalu, I think it was somethin to do with after ya become grandmaster but I'll look it up and edit this post
Commona Tong ya can't join since they are the 'evil' ones, they are only called a faction coz they rival with the thieves guild and ally with fighters guild, that's the way i understand it
and if ya Operative and Hearthfriend in Blades and Ashlanders then no ya can't get a higher rank and I dunno why
