Among all the fluffy, frilly, and downright moronic content clogging up peoples "walls" on FB, it truly is underneath the hood a fairly competent chat manager. When you log into FB, you are confronted with the clogged up wall of bogus content. However, in the upper corner of the screen, it has all your waiting chat messages. If you simply ignore the wall of clog, and go right into your inbox, you will find that FB becomes an awesome chat manager.
I only speak of the computer version of FB, as I have never owned a cell phone and dont know anything about the "apps". And that is all I do with FB. I dont put a picture up of the meal I just cooked or anything like that. I did stalk an ex-girlfriend once? But, that was only to try and get back a guitar she stole from my house when we were in our 20's, so yeah.... highly competent stalk manager too, as it turns out... ;)

I've stated before I use it for sharing pics with family and correcting false memes that are passed about like a social disease. I really can't seem to help it. I try to tell them how to do it on their own with sites like Fact Check.org and stuff but they are either dense or lazy. I never tell them that of course. Some of the falsehood memes are obvious (American News is a site particularly bad) and I never point out a 3 year old should know better than fall for them. Some however are elaborate and believable with specious factoids galore and I don't blame folks for falling for them. I help them separate fact from fiction and most don't hate me too much for it because I make it clear no matter what political affiliation they are it doesn't affect my affection for them. God help me I'm a public service.
I got my first "unfriend" today. I was cordial but let the guy know what he was posting was a lie. I would want to know if I was posting some false meme right? Not so some people. I told him how to check facts on Snopes and such but to no avail. I then told him I could only lead him to the truth but I did not go ahead and say I could not make him think. I was nice. It's something I've been trying out like an ill fitting suit. He still unfriended me and this is a guy I accepted a friend request from out of not wanting to offend. At first it made me mad but the shear dullard line block of refusing truth in favor of eating bullshit has since amused me. I think I actually like being nice if I can still piss folks off.

At this point I just use it to message with family & mess around with TTLG folk.
I swear y'all are the only people who get online-mediated communication.
I usually don't want to touch other friend's posts because they just don't get it.
I can only like Thief 4 Forum posts with my mod superpowers. But they don't exist! :(
Well, I can like at least one post.

Photo sharing, chat, and getting some comments on my life updates from my close friends is pretty much all i use fb for as well. I like that TTLG folks are becoming a bigger part of my fb chatter. Especially the folks i got to recently visit during my travels :) always quality comments from you guys.

I know everyone's posting more funny related stuff to do with FB, but I felt I'd share a really bad recent personal FB experience.
The brother of a girl I dated on and off a decade ago ended up doing volunteer work at the place I was at. I found out he was stalking the girls from the site + he was hanging outside high schools trying to pickup young girls (hes 28). I reported him to the place and got him banned.
A few months later he created an imposter account on FB using another person's name, but filled the profile with photos taken straight from my FB account with vile captions underneath. I found out about this shortly after, but could not look up the profile myself (but could from other peoples accounts) as he blocked me on it. I reported (from my mothers account) the account to Facebook and shortly after received a response from them of:
We’ve reviewed the profile that your friend reported and found that it isn't pretending to be you and doesn't go against our Community Standards.
If you think we should take another look, please reply to this message and let us know.
I soon after responded back to them and pretty much blasted them + told them to get off their asses and not just look at the names on the 2 accounts and to ACTUALLY LOOK at the photos. No response. Their lack of action has had me contemplating the cancelling on my account there if that is their stance. Catch is that I use the site to stay in touch with friends and family.
What to do. Not sure. Why should those posting impersonation related content get better protection than the victims of it? Does not make 1 bit of sense to me.

Ouch that sucks :/ I'm sorry for the shoddy response, that is definitely very unprofessional of them.
I don't think there is much else you can do. By virtue of Internet™ there isn't really a big governing body you could talk to. There is the Business Bureau you can file a complaint with but doubt it would do much to hurt them. But maybe if you bring it up you can push FB to examine the issue further?

What Icemann's going through could be construed as a form of bullying or harassment. There are laws he could lean on to get his problem solved.
Matthew on 8/8/2016 at 20:26
icemann, consider threatening them with court action via a legal professional. Sometimes the big companies will only really get off their bums at that stage.
demagogue on 8/8/2016 at 22:12
Remember too they have over a billion users, so getting over a million complaints a day isn't hard to imagine. They have to automate it to something. In my experience, if an algorithm doesn't catch it, it's down to you can stop it if you can get a local police or court order. They don't contest legal orders.
Edit. Depending on how vile the comments are and especially if you can show direct harm from them, the claim might be libel/defamation.

And if the pictures are yours, file a DMCA claim! :p
