Well, we're probably about due for another 'commchat is dying'/'what happened to this place' navel gazing session which usually revolves around Facebook

I stopped using Facebook a few years back because the SNR went to hell, but I don't really have any ill will about it

Facebook is excellent for what it is. The problem is those folk who think it is a substitute for forums. It is not.

Some exciteable people really like bringing up discussions on FB. They invariably seem shallow or cheap to me--just by how discussions naturally evolve in that kind of sheltered environment--but I don't begrudge them trying, and I'll contribute sometimes just to be a team player.

There's something suspiciously self-important about it, like everybody's Gertrude Stein leading some salon out of their living room whose output is somehow worth the world's attention. In that respect I think forums, as public platforms, are better situated for open discussions.

I'm to the point, anyway, that I just trust discussions with people that are either experts on a topic or at least more interested in working out the right answer than scoring points and their starting point doesn't involve tinfoil hattery. The rest of this is just cheap entertainment.

Sorry. What I meant to say was Facebook is super easy to navigate. You just create a page, friend exciteable people, and then let everybody else do the work. You don't have to really do any more than make your friends feel important by liking their whatnot.

I pretty much was forced onto Facebook because I needed it for survival during studies. It's not that bad if you're willing to forego basic privacy :P

Facebook is deliberately designed so that an inbred chimp with it's head shoved up it's own asshole could use the website with no problems.....while being raging high on meth.

I kind of love/hate that idea. On one hand, it would be intriguig to see which posts people find valuable and which are meh, but it would invariably lead to "I got better ratings than you so stfu" rankism.
