Ok, don't worry about it.

I wonder if 2048 is some kind of limit, then.
Nope, someone on here once posted a screenshot of SS2 running in triple-monitor mode. This was at least a year ago, so maybe it's just his system, or maybe something in DDFix changed that broke multi-monitor support? No idea.

I did that, but the info won't do any good as reference-basically, I did a bunch of crazy stuff just to produce the desired screenshot, the game itself was not playable in any way. I was very surprised it actually worked.
anyway, here goes, just for the fun of it: the test machine was running xp, with two graphics cards installed (integrated hd3100 with two secondary monitors attached, and a standard hd3450 with the primary monitor connected), I have used ddfix1.1.1 (ss2 unsupported, would crash the game as soon as a container is frobbed, but it supports windowed mode, which was required), patched the exe with darkwidescreen to the proper resolution, edited the ini to make it use the correct primary screen and enabled whe windowed mode. fired up the game, it started in a small screen in the upper left part of the primary monitor. loaded a save, expecting a horrible crash of some sort, but all the monitors just darkened, and after a couple of seconds this strange, unlikely patchwork of sofware and hardware managed to display the game on all the monitors, just the way I wanted.
