This is one thing I do NOT want in Thief. Experience points work in DX, and I'm glad they rewarded stealth far more than the ass kicking approach. But...
I don't want experience points in Thief.
Definitely. I'm hoping that they replace Experience Points with extra Loot, just like in the original Thief (especially in Thief 2). In Human Revolution, there was no requirement to collect Loot, so they had to reward exploration in a different way, experience points for Augs being the obvious choice. The only thing that might work is a "background experience points" which will improve the Focus skill. Since there's only 1 "aug" to upgrade (Focus), we don't need "Experience Points!!" appearing on the screen, just ticking away in the engine in the background. But I'd rather it just improve slowly as you progress the game level - like Garrett getting access to lockpicks and other goodies in Thief 1.

I know I'm in the minority with this, but I couldn't get into the new Deus Ex game for the following reasons:
1. The boss fights: they were poorly implemented in Human Revolution and I pray they don't make the same mistake with Thief.
2. Painted Gold: simply a terrible idea and I'd be fine if no one ever attempts it again. Having this type of post-processing for certain locations based on theme, like some weird nightclub for instance would be fine, but never for the entire game. And before you disagree, take a look at the comparison shots with the yellow tint modded out. Much more impressive in my opinion.
3. Hacking mini-game: Off the top of my head, this was probably the only aspect of the game that I would consider an improvement over the last, but even here EM managed to mess it up by having me go through it every couple of steps. I understand that they were proud, but I got sick of it very early on. Again, good idea but dreadful implementation. Sure I could have used a password instead to avoid the mini-game, but idiotically that constitutes a punishment in the form of no awarded XP, which brings me to my next point.
4. Imbalanced XP system: Want those XP points? Then there's only one way to get through the game. Enough said, poor implementation.
5. Takedowns: Everything freezes, you become invulnerable, control is taken away, cinematics over gameplay, I'm about to throw up. When I heard Thief is using these too, I did.
6. Object highlight: This should always be optional. If the community has to yell, start petitions and threaten you to implement this option, you shouldn't be in charge of anything, let alone bringing back a beloved classic.
7. Regenerating health: see object highlight.
8. Third person and first person: Stick to one or gtfo. I cringe just thinking about those few seconds of black screen transitions in between every take down.
9. Graphics: Yes, the art style in DX:HR was beautiful and yes, the game was still ugly as sin. From the models to the texture detail to the repeating office hallways, this was one ugly game.
10. Lack of meaningful choices: My biggest issue with DX:HR was that nothing you did mattered. By the end of the game, you can easily have all the upgrades/mods so choosing the upgrade path was rendered pointless. Choices when it came to individuals were also made worthless by the game's atrocious ending.
In any case, why people, fans of the original in particular, view this game as some sort of accomplishment I will never understand. EM has one game under its belt (and an average game at best IMO), a multiplayer mode for Tomb Raider that nobody, not even the press, liked, and yet I still see people holding out for some sort of miracle and fooling themselves into thinking this new Thief game will be any different. Ten year old games have achieved what these guys are struggling to implement and they're actually proud of their work? When the hell did our standards fall so low!?
Anyway, I hoped they would at least attempt to address these issues in Thief, but it sounds like they're doing the exact same thing.
