The cyborg ninjas, particularly, look like animated garbage bags.

There is a near-infinity of fun games that don't necessarily have good graphics. SS2's graphics were actually quite excellent for the time, with the glaring exception of the AI models.

SS2's graphics were very good when it came out. As ZB said, the AI models were probably the weakest point. Of course that if we look at it by today's standards, we might say that the graphics weren't all that good, but I actually think that they have aged quite graciously.
I recently played Bioforge, and by today's standards the graphics are awful. But back in its day, they were amazing. And I still had great fun replaying the game because I don't care that much about graphics. And then there's always the original Shock, which I'll keep on playing no matter how outdated the graphics are.

That game was fucking awesome. I remember that my third or fourth copy of System Shock 1 had Bioforge and a Wing Commander game packaged with it.

Bioforge was really stunning and I played the heck out of it, but it hasn't aged well. Especially the gameplay or more precisely the combat is atrocious, slow and almost impossible to control. :)
Still sucks that bioforge plus or what it was called didn't make it out (OT: has anyone read anything about it in regards to the Origin museum thing..?).
