The videos are probably all showing the game being played with a controller.
Just about all gameplay footage for every game ever released now is done in a "cinematic" style. This is to make the video look more fluid and realistic, like they're watching a movie, instead of watching someone awkwardly jerk the camera around in a video game.

We certainly wouldnt want the fans to have any sort of actual "hands on" type footage to use in determining whether to spend 60 bux on a video game. Remember, you are not the only person living in this world.

This isn't "hands on" enough for you? :erg:

There's enough new gamers who don't know about the other games who will buy it thinking it's a brand new series
I have a feeling that the gamers who know about the older games are just as likely (or even more likely) to buy the new Thief.

I'd like another Thief game (Thief 5) to emerge in the future. But, on the other hand, I wouldn't like to support such stupid gameplay and design decisions that Eidos Montreal team found so appealing.
I know my money does not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I am still uncertain whether I should buy this game right now.

That's right, reward them for all the hard work they put into their hand animations.

The funny thing about that is that the "awkward jerking" is actually a pretty realistic depiction of the combination of head- and eye movement. Eyes move really fast. The human vision doesn't gently pan around like in promotional gameplay videos.
I wonder if promotional videos will keep doing that slow panning, even when it's about an Oculus Rift game where you actually move your head and it looks very realistic.

It's not really that funny that our eyes don't provide a cinematic experience.

The thing is we have built in smoothing. You don't get motion sick from your own head bob when you walk down the street (unless you've got something wrong with you) but you can get motion sickness from watching a video or a game. At the very least fast movement stops you being able to track what the person playing was aiming for.
Smoothing of demo videos is there for your benefit.
