^Even if those UI options can be toggled on or off, the fact still remains that the game was designed with them. Who knows if purists might be at a huge disadvantage and might outright miss many things because the game was designed around those features. That's my issue with it. They should have first designed the game with those options off by default and then add in helpful features for the patient-less newbies, not the the other way round.

So let me get this straight... this thread is supposed to be some sort of countermeasure shill thing, that is supposed to separate criticism from neutral or positively opinionated discussion so that it can be ignored? Kinda like the "complaints" box with a paper shredder inside it?
How about... no? ...Because that's pretty much North Korea -level of horrible?

All the threads in this forum seem to turn into arguments about the same few topics at some point, I think that the idea of this thread is to keep all that in one place. I don't think it's going to work though.

It might not be quite N.Korea - but it is advocating Eidos fora/Viktoria levels of stupid posting rules.

The idea is to separate gripes that are on topic with gripes that aren't.
In a thread about arrows, for example, it's fine to moan about the rope arrow nonsense in Thief 4. But the trend here is for people to moan about random things so in the arrow thread you'll get someone go off on a rant about swoop. If someone starts a thread about arrows they want to discuss arrows. If you want to talk about swoop and how over powered it is start a thread titled "Swoop - overpower imho".
To crash threads with generic moans, especially endless "Thief as been defiled!!" posts, is just rude. It shows lack of respect and consideration for your fellow forumites.

My apologies, Renz - I should have put that in the personal comment thread.
Well I did have my own post all ready but NuEff has said more or less the same thing I was going to say. What I thought he was intending by starting this thread. I think it's an exercise in a bit of common sense.
This bit might not be what he intended! I think that if you have nothing to say about rope arrows or swoop and you want to tell the world that you think Thief has been defiled, for any reason or no reason, then you should be able to come to this thread and say it. And if you want to wander off in the clouds and say that Joe Bloggs down the road could have done a better job, then you can come here and say it.
And I think everyone should have the freedom to do that without any bitching from anyone else. We all like a good moan, don't we? However, if any posts were specifically designed to deliberately stir or try and cause trouble, then they'd be removed. But if off topic moaning is confined to one place, everyone else has the option to read or not read.
I think it's worth giving it a go. So here's my moan.
I don't like the word heist. I have no idea why I don't like it really except it feels rather modern. Apparently, looking at my OED, it's originally US and mid 19th century. Whatever it is, it makes me cringe when I see it. That's all.

Ive wondered if the reason for weaker writing (and word choice) is not because it is being first written in French and then translated. It could be fantastic in one's native language, but translation always takes something away. I've not followed closely enough; is the writer a French Canadian?

If the "narrative director" is responsible for writing the story, then I think that the answer is no. The narrative director is Steven Gallagher and I believe that he's British?
nickie on 15/2/2014 at 18:56
Well if it is him then it doesn't seem as if he's written anything remotely noteworthy. And he's not British, he's Mancunian. ;)
