It really does not feel like it belongs in this time period. It's like someone came up with a concept to rip off of Gothic in 2002 and then completely forgot about it until 2009.
D'wuh? Dark Souls has nothing in common with Gothic (another series which I loved, by the way) beyond using a 3rd person perspective, and being able to press a button to swing a sword.

Okay, I laughed.

That is literally ripped off from Hitman :P
Also, it looks like not only are the uses of rope arrows contextual, but the game points out on a map where you can fire them. Wow -_-

Morrowind has nothing in common with Gothic either, but people described that game as a better version of Morrowind.

I'd say Morrowind has more in common with Gothic than Gothic does Dark Souls. Superficially they're all pretty similar, but the different emphasis on different things make all of them play starkly different from each other.
Like if you go into Dark Souls expecting quests and tons of conversations with bunches of people in a bustling town, you'll be sorely disappointed.

Is it just me or is the entire City Hub about the same size as one level from Thief 2?

God those maps are really awful - what super genius came up with the idea in a medieval world to have such a modern looking map?
