You're a monster, LaffyTaffy420.

Back to the actual topic of the thread: the City is overtly based on Thief 3's, and just like the latter seems small and cramped. I had hoped that at least they could have made large size levels like in the original T1\2 City.

And I do hope all those superpowers can be turned off (focus, magically sliding across the floor, etc)

Yeah, watching the recent video of Lockdown pretty much confirms it. The whole level looks very claustrophobic and linear. Every so often they feel the need to funnel the player to a certain point in the level and then zoom the camera out to a point of interest. Pretty awful that they couldn't have done better than this.
I also don't like how you can't backtrack within a level once you go past a certain point. I wonder if you'll at least be allowed to replay a level later after you've left it completely. All in all though, the level design looks very straight forward and not very creative. Downright boring even.
Edit: I'm starting to understand why they delete some posts on the official forums. You guys need to all stfu and stop posting crap in this thread.

In Thief 3 they had to make the levels small for Xbox (which was a crappy console when it came to memory) and the team was rushed to finish the game before it was completed. But we're in 2014, they have no excuse. We can only hope the Lockdown video just shows one part of the City, and they made larger areas elsewhere.

On the Eidos forums they actually did go too far, at least when the news that SR would not be voicing Garrett came out. They would systematically delete any link to the SR petition, it's like they were on a campaign to suppress criticism after their massively unpopular move. Probably figuring it would hurt their sales to let too many complaints go through

Linearity is a problem, but I never got why playing in a large but rather empty space was superior to playing in a tight but cramped (or rather crammed, as is the case with T3/4) space. IMHO the tension of playing cat and mouse with guards is higher if I'm just creeping around a stack of crates and columns and not whole buildings with one dark doorway.

I watched that Lockdown playthrough video and noticed in the end that they only got 21% of all loot. So there seems to still be tons of exploring to do, which for me is one of the most important aspects of Thief gameplay. As for linearity, how can anyone claim the level is too linear without playing the actual game? What we see is one route - perhaps the only one, or there might be half a dozen of them. The point is, we can't say anything about linearity without knowing how many avenues the player could have taken, but didn't. And to be honest, many of Thief 1/2's missions were more linear than we often like to think about. The Bafford level? Only one way in. Trace the Courier? Follow Lt. Mosley or fail the mission. Life of the Party? Thieves' Highway or no way. Now, LotP is regarded among Thief fans as one of the best missions, and I agree. It was fun. It had nice little sideways to explore, climbing, rope arrowing, looting through open windows and so on. Just finding the way to Angelwatch was basically what the mission was about, but it was entertaining - and linear. For all the little side avenues we had to explore and loot, there was only one way to get to our designated destination. One way in. Based on this, I think this Lockdown playthrough is a good example of NuThief being judged too harshly and condemned for things we've accepted, and not getting credit for things we lauded, in the original installments. Now, there may still be many reasons for NuThief to genuinely suck, or just not be very good. But I don't think we can really fairly judge it until we play it.

Sure, Thief had some missions with linear sections in them. Although, you could technically go into Bafford's through the front gate and in "Trace the Courier", while the initial route you take is linear, you can still explore the whole level afterwards and in "Life of the Party" you still get to explore a huge building at the end of the linear section.
I agree that linearity itself is not the issue here, though. The issue is that it appears to be a small cramped level with basically a corridor design and not many alternative routes. It's as if you played the first level of Thief up to the wellhouse or a much narrower and shorter version of the first section of "Life of the Party".
Of course, maybe it turns out that it's actually a big sprawling level, but based on (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143219&page=2&p=2234725&viewfull=1#post2234725) the map that someone drew it doesn't seem likely.

Is there a way to get rid of the notification boxes that replace ignored posts? I find them almost as annoying as actually reading whatever GD and BK are saying.

A very handy Greasemonkey script for Firefox that not only gets rid of posts from ignored users entirely, but also removes their quotes from other people's posts.
