The takedowns take a LOT of energy - a whole cell gone, it would be like spending 50 energy points in the original Deus Ex. At least DX:HR gives you some energy regeneration. (You can also upgrade the speed, but it doesn't give you more than one cell so again I'm not sure that upgrade has much point.) I'm not quite sure why they went with consumables for energy in general, nevermind candy bars, when the others used straight-up energy cells, though there's some interesting fiction on the subject in an e-book somewhere.

The thing with the recharge speed, or lack of, is that I like to take multiple people down quickly. So if I have 3 cells charged I can silently take down 3 people but then have to wait til I can more on. If I have one bar this is an even longer wait and sometimes, say in a space where there are 2 enemies so you have little chance of hiding one (like in the pod hotel) it's a real pain in the ass.
But then those guys were grade A a-holes so they got the laser sighted, damage upgraded silent pistol to THE FACE. So that was ok :D

I have no problem with the notion that to take a substantial group of people down quickly and quietly without much difficulty requires upgrades and/or "ammo" (energy bars/pills whatever). :p Seriously, how much of an "I-win" button were you expecting? ;)

ok, another thing to think about: i finished the game with everything (i think) hacked and ghosted and had 25 praxis points and 27.000 credits (or 17.000 not counting the preorder crap) left to spend at the end.
I only got: jump, lift, hack2, stealth3 and recharge3.
then I got more inventory so I can carry more of the vast amounts of resources the game just throws at you. Why even create an economy with money if you are SWIMMING in money and stuff ?
later I got the turret/robot domination so I don't have to fight the 2 robots in the hangarbay and get the ghost xp. I never bought the social aug and won every speech challenge.
I bought no add batteries since the first one recharges all the time or you just spam cyberbars (which I had >15 of)
I had a pistol un-upgraded and 3 fragmines for bosses.
that's it, I never needed any of the other stuff since the enemies just hord in one spot easy to stun-nade or walk off conveniently to pick them off. never did I have the feeling that I need those augs, I think that is a lost opportunity by the devs. For a non-lethal player most of the augs are completely useless (cone-of-vision, last know location, mark/trak).....you HAVE 3RD PERSON and you have a radar, nothing else is needed.
many times takedown was broken, teleporting me into another location so the animation can play, afterwards me and the victim half-clipped into a wall where we slowly glitch out of it and slip into the enemies view.....what a crap

I love how the HUD shows that someone is alarmed by this finding.

I would have liked there not to be an I-win button, instead of a win button with artificially limited uses :p. But yeah, it's a minor complaint... I'm actually really enjoying pretty much everything so far. (Just at the police station.)

I like the way it was implemented, I think that takedown is a way to powerful to be abused.
I have some issues with cover though... Although I think it's working pretty well it disrupts the immersion and I don't know about you but I stick a lot to crates, trying to stay hidden, and also in a firefight the cover is a must. But this way I spend more time in cover making the gameplay more similar to Mass Effect than a FPS...
Has anybody tried to play the game without using cover? Is it possible? I admit I played only two hours yesterday for the first time so I didn't try it yet.

the moment you are not in cover the enemy spots you if he is close enough. while remaining in cover he can literally stand 1 feet away and does not recognize you. out of cover only works on higher ground or if the distance is far enough. and yes, takedown is op and the game is far too easy. you are swimming in resources and praxis points.

Praxis, right. I don't like the way it was implemented, I prefer the old way that allowed you to upgrade WHEN YOU FIND an augmentation carnister, not based on your XP. That's why I plan to upgrade only when I find a praxis point lying on the floor and collecting dust :P

The old way only let you upgrade new systems with a medbot. Enhancements via AUG UPGs could be done on the fly.
The new system lets you do EVERYTHING on the fly, as long as you have enough Praxis points available (typically 2 for the first link in a new AUG chain).
I'm currently sitting on 15 (fifteen!) unused Praxis points. In the middle of my first run through Hengsha. I'm badass enough for what I seem to be facing - aside from The Hive, most hackable terminals seem to be just level 1 or 2. I have Cap level 3. And a handful of AUDs for the few things worse than that.
Hacking is becoming quite easy, now that I've learned to try to hack the security node itself, if possible.
