Hi all!
I tried the links in the sticky thread to try to get Everest (it looks so cool), but I was taken to the company site and couldn't find a free version.
SO... I searched the posts here and found a link to MajorGeeks which had the 2.20.405 version. I downloaded and installed that but got an error message about Everest not being up to date. I ignored that message and went straight to the program and all seemed well (except for... well... a different thing; see below).
Should I be using a later free version?
I am running in XP Home SP3, with an Intel 2 gig Core2 Duo, on an Inspiron 1520 machine. I don't know what other details are relevant, but you could see it all if I could get the blasted Everest working!!:mad:
Ok... the other thing is that when I was following the instructions in the post I couldn't figure out how to do the "Load the custom report into Everest.":confused:

I'm confused. What "different thing".
My early version of Everest works on all my machines XP and older.
As for the "REPORT". That goes to the EVEREST site for thier data base.
I'll fire mine up and see about the possibility of saving the report on my computer.
That is your only option with the free version. I think. If you don't have a purchased copy, the options and links to Everest are not available.

All I meant by the "different thing" was that I couldn't, most likely through my own confusion, couldn't understand the "load custom report" thing.
SO... I was afraid I had a version different from the one talked about in the post.
SO... let's see if I understand this right this time... first of all, I checked out the link you graciously provided and I'll have to spend some more time tracking down the links it lists.
But also... what version of Everest do you have?
I want to get the latest of the free versions they have.
And then also, also... What does everyone think of Belarc Advisor? It takes a similar "snapshot" of your machine, but I can't see how to post it.:weird:
In the meantime... Thanks for the generous offer of letting me get on your machine. Can't say that I really understand all of this yet, but if I can't get this cool stuff working I'm just going to make a good ole notepad doc of all my specs once and for all and copy and paste away!:rolleyes:

When you get the BELARC report, it saves a file as a HTML page. Copy that page and just PASTE it where you want it. Why and where would you ant to paste it?
If you want it for your own use just PRINT a copy. I make one for everyone of my systems, and redo it every time I make a change in the hardware.

I just wanted to be able to put all my specs up when I ask a techie question, not just here but on other sites (I'm one of those adventure-game types).
I have no idea what they all mean but maybe some nice person will see something and say "why THERE'S your problem right there... you've got a whoosie-whatzit and you're trying to run it with a whitchie-cabob."

Please post your System Specifications
Knowing what your system has in it is a great help to anyone trying to diagnose a problem. Please include your video card, sound card, processor, Operating System (with Service Pack #/Release #) and any other information we could possibly need. To automate this process, you can use Everest.
I've searched and can't figure out how to get a Free Everest to work for me.
SO... I've annoyed you all with my confused attempts at using Belarc.
You see, the thing that gets me is: "...and any other information we could possibly need."
I just don't know how I am supposed to know what is "information one could possibly need" and what isn't.
What I guess this amounts to is 1) hardware 2) Operating system 3) relevant software (like Direct X Version, or Darkloader), and that's it... period!
That's enough to get you trouble-shooting stars up and running down a problem, eh?;)

Did you define the problem? I must have missed it. If it is the TMA install, and you used the -lgntforce command and it didn't work, it might be something with SP3.
Other than that and not running Everest and posting the report I don't see a problem defined.
If it is Everest itself, then forget that and use the AIDA32. It reads the same data and gives you the information:
Meanwhile, delete the over-lengthy reports you filed and just leave the last trimmed down version.
I see the problem with Everest. Also with AIDA32. Now all of the apps are PAY AS YOU GO.
Sorry about that. As for the "most current" there is none that is free. But I have sent you a Email with a sample of the AIDA info choices, and a sample of one diagnosis.
