While you might not like the comparison:
Think of it like the chainsaw in gears of war, it was a highly rewarding way of killing an enemy, and it was possible to do it from any direction, but running towards an enemy trying to do it while he and his buddies are are fully aware and shooting at you, you wont succeed in any way, and you'll die somewhere along the way, the whole struggle was getting close enough and making sure the sequence would actually end in a benefitial position for you without enemies nearby.
It was never a clear outcome there, but if you'd position yourself right, manage to pull it off just in time, it would end up being like a welltimed knock on the head with the blackjack, the sequence being a sigh of relief if you're alone with the victim, much like bloodlines.
Add to that the dragging and hiding of corpses we know will be in DX:HR
I know I wont be playing it on easy in any case though.

At a guess, it's an attempt to make the game gratuitously satisfying.
Christ.
I wasn't hiding any bile in there.
Hand-eye coordination is satisfying, and that's what first-person gaming has matured around on the PC. Now that the 360 and PS3 are primary platforms to make these games for I'd be surprised if they didn't tune the gameplay to overcome how clunky they feel with a pad.
My bet is on controls becoming less abstract as soon as a method for hand-eye coordination that is both accurate and comfortable comes along.

Ok, my apologies for jumping down your throat.
I still think you're completely off base, though ... control issues might prevent a knockout mechanic quite as sensitive as Deus Ex's, but surely it wouldn't require going remotely as far as this!
Right from the start the developers have said that takedowns are about making the augs as gratifying as possible: I don't see any reason not to believe that's the full story.

Knockouts were not guaranteed kills with DX. Things could go bad.
Ok. Here's the difference between DX and what HR will most probably be : With DX, hide in shadow from afar for several minutes to learn patrolling route and, if there are several enemy patrolling, wait for the right timing. Then go hide quickly behind a wall and rely on sound to know when to attack. When the sound of the footsteps seem to indicate the enemy has turned around, which is very imprecise, pray a bit, get out of hiding and try to get behind the target fast enough (before the enemy turns around or another one sees you), hoping he won't hear you so your baton is an instant kill (in case you don't remember, if you decide to run, the enemy might hear you before you hit and then your baton won't do much and you will be in deep shit).
wait, do you actually play like that? That sounds so... not fun...
Papy on 27/6/2010 at 02:56
Yes, I played like that. I also played on "realistic" and never saved in the middle of a level, so if I died, I had to restart from the beginning of the mission.

That'd only really be troublesome for the first few missions, though. Combat strength and reasonable low tech skill and you can baton someone to unconsciousness fairly easily even if you fuck up the stealth KO. Just don't hit em in the head.

aaaaand another silly preview (

There are some neat ideas too - augs like
X-Ray vision (think grabbing foes through walls),
skin-grafted Claymore mines and
bungee-style death leaps (
which demonstrate genuinely inventive thinking on the part of the team)
oh do they?

At its most basic level, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is combining the cover-focused, super-slick blasting of an Uncharted 2 and the intelligent talky stuff of Mass Effect
now you're such a tease, darling
edit: okay now let's play a little game called 'which is Deus Ex, which is GITS2: Innocence'
