More fuel for the Shanghai debate:
Quote:
"In the game the idea isn't that it's the poor at the bottom and the rich at the top; the bottom used to be the Mecca of cybernetics, a lot of the headquarters of the great labs and manufacturing plants are there, it's just that when they built above it they chose a different architectural direction.
"So above they have new universities and new headquarters, but the bottom isn't a slum - there isn't an old school dichotomy. We put a lot of stuff in the game, like you'll see those student-types from the upper level coming downstairs at night to party, and hit the bars and brothels."
So, not Midgar and not IW Seattle.

Someone called “Tong” is running a club there. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
haha Tong is such a stupid name, it's like dong which is a slang word for penis. stupid names for stupid consolefags i guess!

Current verdict: Bioshock?

What we decided for this game was that we had to make it spectacular - we needed some reward. We needed, as soon as you used an augmentation, to pull the camera out into the third-person and let the player see what Jensen is able to do.

It's actually very simple - and to reassure you we did a lot of playtests before we found the right recipe.
Oh if you did a lot of playtests I am very fucking worried precisely because it will be very simple, no doubt

When you see the game in motion you find yourself breathing sigh of relief after sigh of relief at the tiniest of things - from the way the screen looks after you've hacked a computer and are fiddling with security feeds, to the way a strength augmentation will let you pick up boxes that are in your path.
Yes. Picking up boxes is pretty breathtaking

Comeon, spare your hating for xcom instead.
Deus ex 3 might actually be a proper new addition to the series.

No seriously. Koki's fierce and enduring negative take makes me fear the DX board will soon be engulfed in a devastating singularity of suck.

well, at least they are honest that they just did it for spectacle and money. reward, reward, reward. pop-up achievement :
CRATEMASTER ! - you lifted 100 boxes
SPIKEY RAMPAGE: you impaled 100 civilians
don't even start me about the TPP.
and for the technology gap to DX1 they said that they just did wanna have it look more advanced than 2010. Still, they overshot it by a big margin imo. Nobody can tell me the world will look like this in 17 years. the example about widescreen monitors is lame but ... well, whatever.
apart from those dreadful, stupid decisions everything else sounds spot on. so it could be a nice semi-open rpg/shooter that steals augs, some themes and locations from DX1 but nothing more. Shame about the bad dialogue though. Should take a hint from Bioware how to do voiceovers in trailers. I'm stilling rolling on the floor when hear those silly lines....

EDIT: to raph
I kinda agree with a lot of his points though.
But then, I quite enjoyed bioshock, so I suspect I will be entirely capable of enjoying HR on its own merits, without constantly comparing it to what it should've/could've been.
Still, kinda disappointed.

Well, in terms of story and everything, I pretty much accepted the fact that the era that saw Deus Ex and System Shock is over, like it or not, and while we obviously still see good games every once in a while, the industry's focus is not on us old-school gamers.
Personnally I'm still holding judgment as while I like the looks so far, gameplay vids are where it's at, and the TPP is the one thing that really has me worried there. Gameplay is key, I can play through any story if the gameplay is engaging enough. If the story is great so much the better.
I'm just a bit sick to see people come and constantly spit their bile on every tidbit of info about DX3 no matter what, like it's a spawn of hell or something. I understand we would like the devs to listen to our concerns but behaving like a spoiled witless brat won't get us anywhere.

I sure as hell didn't enjoy Bioshock, but I find DX3 looks promising overall, despite some of the cringe-inducing stuff.

In Lord of the Rings Online, one of the titles that you can earn is 'crate collector' which you get from, well, examining crates in a particular instance. No real relevance, I just thought it amusing when I saw it.
