Lots of good American beers come with the standard cap and not the twist off. Any self respecting beer drinker has it covered no matter where he or she goes. This puppy has been with me since 1989.

Most Canadian bottles are pop-off, at least where I live. Our bottles are recycled, too.
I spent last year in B.C., and the general rule of thumb that I did find was that all Canadian beers were twist-top, and the imports were not. The beers that I remember having over there were Sleemans, Molson, Black Bear, Granville Island, and a couple of local brews, all of which were twist tops.

After a couple of somewhat unpleasant instances of absent-mindedly trying to twist off a non-twist-off cap, I decided life would be a whole lot easier if I just used an opener for everything. Like the man said, it's the only way to be sure, and as Ulukai pointed out, cracking a bottle with a proper opener has a much more satisfying feeling of, "I'm about to drink a
beer."
What in the FUCK.

I went and asked on this forum,I was curious too. My hubby only drinks Bitter or real ale!. I think Brits like the old types of caps. You can get tiny bottle openers, even some soft drinks still use them.
CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale
I suspect there are three reasons why brewers would choose not to use twist off caps. The first is that twist off caps do not give the strongest seal. The second is that the use of twist of caps would be marginally more expensive. Thirdly there is no discernable consumer demand for twist off beer caps.

o come on, you havent learned how to pop the tops with a quarter yet?
its EASY
but anythin smaller kinda hurts your hand....

No, it hurts your hand when you realize it's not a twist-off after you've already twisted it off.
