Well I guess since Abrams has denied any connection between his thing and the Ethan Haas business the terrible and unnamable shadow that crouches out of sight in our feeble earthbound minds and draws us utterly and without wont to this place (namely "Raarr gimee a good Lovecraft-y movie!") has to find something else to talk about for the time being.

Is it wrong that I thought Cthulu looked oddly watchable in a modern take on the David Lynch ouevre of horror?
Anyway, I've never read any Clive Barker but that sounds excellent - I'm always up for claymation figures terrorising people. I always remember that exceptionally brief snippet of Freddy Kruegar becoming a claymation puppet in Dream Warriors. Haha, what a dreadful movie, I liked the mythos though. But as for any of these movies, I'll be glad for a move away from the torture porn masquerading as horror these days.

It took the high quality version for me to realise it's supposed to be the (very badly rendered) head of the Statue of Liberty that was launched across the city.

I watched Transformers, but I very vaguely remember seeing that trailer. I guess because it's so un-trailer-like, I wasn't really sure what I was watching until it was over, and then didn't remember anything afterwards, and giving me no information didn't help. Their plan sort of backfired on me.
Watching it again ... leaves me with the feeling that either they just blew their biggest load for the trailer (which I can't believe), or it'll have to go Armageddon to keep topping itself; and the best horror for me has always been understated. But I can't really say that either as there's not enough to go on in this trailer. There is still enough here to pique my interest, and it is set in NYC which is always a pro for me, so that's good.

sounds fucking
vintage Barker.
Bleh. Barker works well on paper but I doubt we'll ever see a Barker film that's
really any good. The original Hellraiser was pretty good, back in the day, but it looks so dated now and any attempt to remake it will miss the point (see Transformers for reference). I fear this will always be the same for any Lovecraftian adaptation - the artistic slant of the director will likely miss the point and we'll end up with some mediocrity that is just ranked and filed with all the other "horror" trash. But one can hope...
