And I wonder if they paid anybody for the snippet of the back-masked intro to Queen's Play The Game?:D
And what a coincidence! Here we are playing a (series of) games(s)! OMG!

Yeah but really he generally does describe things, in quite a detailed fashion (what do people want? these things vital statistics?). It's just that these things are bizzarre and typically described by fevered minds. It's when you turn it into an object of the senses that it becomes quite ridiculous, particularly to a savvy modern audience.
Yeah, It'll be interesting to see how del Torro turns the "OMZG, it looks like a... VEGETABLE!" part in
Mountains of Madness into something that is a bit more frightening than, well, a vegetable - if he is indeed working on a film adaptation, that is.

And then, of course, there's (

That is why we can't have nice things. :(
(edit) Okay, I just realised that
The Whisperer in Darkness could work really well as a movie. Provided that whoever did it didn't mess about with the way things are supposed to look.

With Tori Spelling in it the movie's bound to be scary, at least...

If you look really carefully at the Director's Notebook feature on the Pan's Labyrinth DVD, you can find a handful of notes regarding At the Mountains of Madness.

Screw what he might be up to in the future, have you heard about this Clive Barker-penned Born that del Toro's producing (along with a couple of others, including Lawrence "Predator" / "Tomb Raider" Gordon)?
I was leery at first, since Barker trundled off down the road towards Self-Indulgent Crap at some point in the middle of "The Great and Secret Show", but the premise:
"As they settle into their new home in a quiet English town, a married couple is terrorized by the husband's creations -- claymation figures that come to life, and begin to act out a nightmarish scenario."
sounds fucking vintage Barker.
This thread is SO not about Ethan Haas anymore, is it? :D

Threads derailed - by original poster? For shame!

Well, fuck. You can't expect me to wait four weeks and stay on target, can you? I MEAN REALLY. I HAVE A LOT OF ENERGY AND VIRTUALLY NONE OF IT IS DIRECTED IN A USEFUL OR SENSIBLE DIRECTION.
Plus I am always up for a discussion of the horror genre. Particularly if it starts wandering into Lovecraft. :D
